Project Running Boards
After much deliberation I decided to change the standard running boards to the aluminium type. I enquired with BMW regarding the price and was advised £280 ($420) for the parts and fitting would take 2 hours at £140 ($210) per hour, so a total of £560 ($850).
I googled the fitting instructions and found the instructions for the X5 so was pretty confident they would be almost the same and happy that I could do the fitting myself. The instructions do actually say to allow 2 hours to fit. So, I purchased the parts from my local dealer and they kindly gave a 10% discount (didn't say why and I didn't ask!), they even offered to deliver to my home address the next day free of charge, which I again I accepted with good grace. Home from work this evening and set about the job. In fact, it took about 2 hours 30 minutes all in and that included taking photographs, fiddling with finding the tools and charging my screwdriver (needed to attach the aluminium to the top of the plastic part as it doesn't come made up). Pretty straightforward to do and pleased with the results. The only criticism is that replacement plastic plugs for around the wheel arches are not included with the kit. Everything else is and these are essential as they are not designed to be taken out and most break. Have attached some before and after photos for all to comment on! |

Nice work!
Those boards fail functionally, but I think they really help finish-off the vehicles appearance.
