trailer hitch

Hello,

I am new to the forum and could use some help. In the process of getting an x6 5.0 ... dealer is quoting me $2500 to install the hitch and electric brake controller. It seems some people on here have gotten it for cheaper. All hitches in the past I have gotten hitch city to install. I called them today and they said there isn't a hitch for the x6? I also checked most of the big hitch manufacturers online and they have nothing for the x6? Question is .. are they using the x5 hitch on this car? Is it a direct bolt on or is there mods to the x5 hitch? and how much should it cost? Any help would be greatly appreciated?

thanks

BMW offers a hitch for the X6.

Trailer Hitch Kit-Class III(PN: 71 60 2 156 527)
$500.00

Ball and Tongue(PN: 71 60 0 413 358)
$45.00

Metal Bumper Trim Piece(PN: 71 60 0 443 105)
$25.00

Receiver Cap(PN: 71 60 0 303 882)
$8.00

I don't have this hitch installed and wouldn't know if $1500+ to install is right, but it sounds high to me. I believe you have to cut away part of the bumper if that helps.

I had the hitch installed when my X6 was delivered. I recall $850 complete. Your additional charges may have to do with the brake controller. I did not need one. Good Luck !

Hi Tyson,
We were quoted $2500, but had BMW install after purchase for half that.

The x5 bracket will not fit the x6.

No need to cut, there is a removalble panel.

We have had our brake controllers fitted by a specialist Auto electrician, not BM as they would not undertake the installation.

With the hitch we went with BMW as the local shops were unable to obtain the part.
Depends what you tow, you may require a variable height adaptor, as the x6 tow hitch is very low. Reversing the insert still didn't give our height = to the x5.
Best of luck
