Noise at the tailgate area on X5? Check this first !
Are you experiencing weird noises at the tailgate area of your X5? Well there are 2 possible points that are the culprit. Check them in this order:
1. The hatch bolts on the lower tailgate assembly, mines were completely loose 2. The hatch stop rubbers on each side of the tailgate base, you can level those rubber stops using a T25 bit My wife was tired of hearing the tailgate noise all the time and adjusting the bolts on the lower tailgate assembly and leveling the rubber stops on the tailgate base was the complete solution. Give them a try ! Happy 2018 to this awesome FORUM.

Mine just started rattling, i'll look into this.
I've heard of other forum members putting electrical tape on the lower U latches to reduce noise as well

I’ve used felt tape instead of the electrical tape and it has helped tremendously. Don’t rule out the seat latches either as they can create a lot of noise as well.

Anyone get noise from the cargo cover? I've got a rattling going on over bumpy roads and can't figure out what it's from. I believe I am looking at the right latches and everything seems tight

if you hear creaks and rattles from your car, your exhaust isn't loud enough.

Every time I think that, I fire up my WRX and am reminded how much I like an actual exhaust! I have some tailgate noises, but my tailgate also stays about 1/8 inch out at the bottom when fully closed, and the upper adjustments don't help. Is the latch in the lower half adjustable? |

The bottom U-latch, wrap that up with felt tape or electrical tape. If that doesn't work, wrap your index finger around that U-latch and try to move it. If you feel any play, it's because the grease under that latch has leaked out. Disassemble to get to the that U-latch and add grease.

WHICH Tailgate noises are you referring to for this solution?
The creaking/popping when going around turns? Or other?
