Rusty Hubs?

Changing out my winters for summers today, and I noticed some surface rust on that hub lip that our wheels hang on. I also noticed a little bit of rust inside the hub, which had a little bit of grease remaining. I cleaned both surfaces a bit with paper towel and degreaser, then put a thin layer of new grease on both. Was that sufficient to inhibit rust? Is it Ok for both surfaces to have grease on them?

I normally give them a scrub with a wire brush each time the wheels are off. Grease on that is fine as long as it doesn't get on the brakes.

Cool. I guess I could also try some light sandpaper. Thanks!

Clean them up well, then put a small amount of this on the hub surface where the wheels contact the face and also around the outside of the center hub ring where the wheels meet.
A very light coat is all that you need, use very sparingly.

Makes the swap of your summers/winters and also removal of any spacers MUCH easier!

DO NOT USE ON THE BOLTS!!

Enjoy!

I've actually been using that on lug bolts and spark plugs for years, torqued to spec and haven't had any problems. Why not use on the bolts?

I've just always read to not use it on lugs, but if you've not had any issues then never mind

Try it on your hubs too...

Works great on the hubs. And absolutely use a bit on the wheel bolts too. It'll keep them from rusting also.
