Black paint scratches so easily!!!

I have a Black ( not metallic) BMW X5 and love it!
But today it was a bit dusty decided to use an ultra soft dust MIT to gently get rid of the dust without having to wash it.
There are now scratch marks every where in horizontal lines or swirls whichever way I dusted??
Why on earth would it mark so easily?
I've had it polished and waxed but basically gave no protection whatsoever??
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Always afraid getting of a jet black BMW. And this is why. My uncle has a jet black 750 and that thing is swirl marked to hell

As you've just learned, NEVER dry wipe black paint with anything. Black paint will show any mark very easily. When the car is dusty, just leave it dusty until you can wash it again. When washing and drying, always use horizontal motions, not circles. Nothing makes swirls faster than circular motions. The scratches you are seeing are likely on the wax, not the paint. Wash it again and touch up with a fresh coat of wax when done. We have a '00 Jet Black 328 that looks great due to regular waxing and no circular motions when washing or drying. Black paint takes a bit more TLC, but it certainly looks great when it shines!

Yes the black shines like a mirror!
I want to keep it this way!
DEFINATLY won't dry dust it again.
Any suggestions on the best wax to use?
What do you think of the product
"FIRE GLAZE"?

Adams polishes... hands down. Their entire line up is money, especially VRT

Griots is also pretty good. Especially their speed shine! My 7 is jet black and when pollen or dust or dog hair gets on it and i dont feel like washing it, i just blow it off with my backpack blower.

Klasse. Straight from Germany. Great wax (red bottle) and finishing polish (silver bottle) will cover a lot of imperfections and offer a superb layer of protection.
If the swirls don't wax out, use Meguiars clay bar kit which comes with the lubricating solution. It will cut through the existing wax to prepare the surface for a layer of new wax. Works to remove bug residue, road tar, spray paint, etc. as well.

My last black car was a Shelby GT500. I local guy in O.C. has a proprietary process that chemically treats the paint removing swirl marks & resulted in a true mirror finish. He claims his process does not use any wax or polish which he claims just fills in the swirls until the next wash.

Anyway, the black paint never looked so good & the car attracted less dust after the treatment. Cost was around $600-$700 so it wasn't exactly cheap but the finish lasted a while (years).

He had a lot of high end cars that he worked on.

Black is the worse for showing up marks but when polished and clean looks amazing. My x5 is black and is a pain to keep swirl free. TLC is needed for sure.

All paint from BMW scratches the same way

Easily...

Just certain colors show it more

I love a jet Black Car/SUV when it's all detailed up too bad they can't be kept that way all the time.

That's why I own AW mostly

I always said.. (and I owned a detail shop- high end cars in SW Fl) the reason why grandma's car always looks amazing is they do nothing to it.. =)

with that said-- I've tried dual buckets , screen on bottom etc.. but the best thing Ive found for removing the sand/dust while washing.. use a foam cannon type gun.. blast soap on.. let it pull down dirt.. then use a good wash mit. =)

rinse and repeat =)

and I love chemical guys products!
