Talk to me about vehicle software updates!

Hello all,

I just got the Velos tuner and will be sending my file back to Omar this week. In talking with the dealership about coming in to get the latest updates, they say i'm looking at potential Bluetooth updates, etc. Doesn't really seem like anything I care to pay $400 for.

Can anyone confirm what I would be looking at from a 2010 M?

Bluetooth is free
www.bmw.com/update

MX-3.5.4, TX-3.5.8
UPD01008.bin

Unless your car is too old to use the web file. Sometimes with MY2010, it can happen

My uptodate info is here. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-database.html

Appreciate it.

This was more of a... what is really that important in the updates that warrants me spending the money to get it?

Here's the way I see it

Bluetooth is important, fixes a few things. You can check the readme file. Sometimes you cannot get exactly the same update for a MY2010. Do it, it is free and you do it by yourself.

The Gracenote database is mainly used if you rip cd music to store it on the vehicule or when you listen to cd. But you still get it free...

The updated maps depend on if you use navigation or not. Personal choice, not free but folks everywhere sell FSC code for some money to update the maps.

Lastly, the I-Level firmware for the entire car. Find the version from you car when you go see the dealer and see how far behind you are from the latest one. That's the update that is costly and long and we don't have the information about what every minor update fixes. Latest one is E070-15-11-500 from around october-november 2015.

I personally try to always update everything. The car is going on Monday to update the firmware but it is very hard to make the dealer update it for free while on warranty. I hear the update takes a long time like 6-8h and sometimes the update breaks some modules on the car (I hear often the footwell module).
