Airbag Recall...
BMW officially initiated airbag recall for the X5M/X6M. Driver's side. No date on when the parts may be available. No affected X5M/X6M may be sold by a BMW dealer. CPO or NON-CPO.
i love how BMW doesn't want the risk of selling a vehicle with the airbag recall open but feel free to drive around in the one you already own. thanks BMW! i have this open campaign on M3 for nearly a year with the airbag on intergalactic backorder 5000.

indeed. how long before rear airbag or curtain airbags are affected?
February 5, 2016 | Recall Campaign No. 16V-071 DRIVER-SIDE FRONT AIR BAG Status: Remedy not yet available Last Updated: February 12, 2015 DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM During air bag deployment in an accident, the driver-side front air bag module may produce excessive internal pressure that could cause the inflator to rupture. SAFETY RISK Inflator rupture could result in metal fragments striking the driver or other passengers, potentially resulting in serious injury or death. DESCRIPTION OF REPAIR Your BMW center will replace the driver-side front air bag module. However, due to the large volume of new inflators needed to repair vehicles, the necessary parts will not be immediately available. As a result, owners of affected vehicles will be informed of the recall in an initial notification letter. Once replacement parts become available BMW will send another notification letter to owners, beginning with older model year vehicles located in BMW's previously defined HAH (High Absolute Humidity) region and expanding accordingly as more parts become available. For additional information or assistance, please contact Customer Relations and Services at CustomerRelations@bmwusa.com, or at 1-800-525-7417. i am familiar with the issue, i am not placing blame on bmw for the part failure but on them for mitigated their own risk while it being perfectly fine for others to drive around with open recall. i understand the supplier is at fault and due to the enormity of the recall it will be an on going effort and i understand bmw has even looked for other suppliers to install airbags and have takata fitbill but nothing as of yet has come to fruition. i have received several notices in the mail for the vehicles i own(ed) and it is discomforting to see that bmw will not sell a vehicle that has an open airbag recall but will allow you to continue to stay in yours and go about driving.

I sold my E46 right before the initial recall hit the news... I thought I dodged a bullet... Now I have both the X5 and the M3 to deal with as they expand this recall...
Lovely!

3 of our 4 cars have been affected by this recall. Our E46 has been waiting for parts for over a year, and the E70 recall was announced the day after we bought the car.
On our Honda, we received a letter from Honda saying if we didn't feel safe driving the car we could bring it in and they would give us a loaner. After 3 months of waiting for parts I exercised this option, and 2 days later the parts magically appeared. I wish BMW would step up to the plate here, as Honda did.

Do you think they will they let us do the AB swap ourselves?
Can we take our AB in to the Stealership, and will they give us a new one? It's only about a 15 minute job...

Yes, airbags are an easy swap but for a recall I highly doubt they'd let the customer do it.

absolutely not. it has to be logged in the system and it has to be done by a trained technician.
