buying a 2005 X5 4.8 but need advices

Hi there,

This is my first post and most probably won't be last as long as I purchase the X5 I'm looking at. I am about to close the deal with a guy who has an Imola Red E53 X5 4.8 but I wanted to know what regular issues appear all the time? What should I look out for that is a major issue with them? I think you guys have an idea what kind of info I am looking for, I need to make sure I check all the known issues and problems with them before I go ahead and close this deal.

Thanks
Sam

Both X5 I've had had O2 sensors replaced at one point. Other than that, they have run perfectly. The 4.8i is thirsty.

2005 would be the sporty 4.8iS...there's a considerable performance difference between the 4.8iS (2004-2006) and 4.8i (2007-2010). The most common issues are the intermediate levers and self leveling suspension. I believe the intermediate lever issue was addressed beginning with late 2005 and 2006 models. I suggest you get a thorough inspection by a dealer and no one else before you purchase.

Do a search on the xoutpost website...lot's of owner feedback and resolve to read through.

You're in for a treat in the 4.8iS...It was the most powerful and sporty X5 till the release of the X5M (and upcoming X5 50i). BMW's 0-60 time was 5.9 seconds...Lot's of power/torque and you don't see as many of them on the roads as you do other X5's. The 4.8iS is rare.

The car has about 75,000miles, FSH from the dealer, seems quite clean when I drove it but I'm quite sure there is always an issue with them X5's...I will have it fully inspected at the dealer and see what kind of report comes out of it, hopefully no major issues...

Thanks for the help guys, will keep you posted

i would stay away from the 4.8i with that many miles unless you budget in a few thousand bucks for maintenance/repairs. good thing is that DIY oil change for this car is relatively easy.
