Front suspension noise

Got a tremble sound everytime I hit a bump. Kinda sounds like when a shock mount goes bad.. Any ideas?

I would like to know as well. I brought the car into the dealer and they retorqued a few nuts up front. Sounds better but still hear noise coming from up front on occasions.

Apparently my front struts are messed up. Wondering if it's the actual strut or strut mounts

Sway bar links.

I had mine replaced. Both sides, dealer fought it the whole way to be covered under my warranty.

How can I inspect this on my own before taking it to the dealer?

Get a creeper, crawl underneath, have someone else drive the car. Don't forget your flashlight.

I'm also getting this sound at low speeds over bumps, I'm sure the dealer will tell me that it's because I'm lowered on a spring kit and probably won't cover it under warranty I'm guessing. Let us know what happens!!! Is your X5 lowered at all?

I was getting the same noise with my dinan suspension. Dinan replaced all 4 shock mounts back to the oem ones and that fixed it. They did it all for free...

Took my X in yesterday for front suspension noise. When I dropped it off I told the tech that I assumed it was the sway bar links or the strut mounts. He replied "Ok that makes my job easier." I got a call about an hour later telling me that it was in fact the sway bar links. So they replaced them under warranty and then let me know that they also went ahead and replaced the strut mounts as well.

All is good and no more noise!!

In case anyone reads this thread later and wants to know how to check to see if they are bad, you need to get it onto a lift prefereably-it needs to be off the ground to have the suspension unloaded. You can then move the sway bar ends if they are bad.

Good info. I have noticed when I drive over a bump or a steep incline sideways (when the car flexes) a noise in the front suspension also. My X5 is under warranty until October. Thanks for the tip!

I need to get mine in soon. This noise is driving me nuts.

I hope they don't question the repair under warranty (it's on H&Rs)

I am in the same boat also on H&R's. I Don't remember hearing the clunky sound before the springs but also haven't even had them on a year yet.

mine too on h&r's. I wonder if lowering it causes them to wear out very quickly.

Anyone know the cost of the repair per side at the dealer without warrenty coverage?

Mine was clunking even before I lowered it. I'm sure the lower geometry doesn't do it any favors though.

^ No. Mine is still factory height and the noise came.
Check out this thread. I listed all the parts that were replaced when I brought mines into the dealership.

Thanks for this.. I've been having this god awful noise even before the suspension install or lowering I assumed it was shock mounts and I was doing everything at once so I figured I'd be good. I did bilstein sports with the H&R kit and also shock mounts. To my surprise noise still exist!! Wasn't my mounts or any of the above so now I'm gonna change links and also sway bar bushings see what happens then.... Hopefully all good

Had a similar noise, clunk sound at low speed when turning into or out of the driveway. Ended up being loose stabilizer links. They are on the way, not sure why they have to come from Germany though, seems like a popular item.
