X5M iPod & playlist?

Had a 10' X5, upgraded to a 12' M and took my y cable from the 10' and now I can't find a playlist and use my I drive like I could previously in the 10'. I can use the iPod itself when connected through the y cable but that's it. What am I missing? Is there a newer cable?

I'm not sure about a new cable, but I took my Y-cable out if my '11.5 M3 and used it in my '13 X5, and all of my playlists were there.

When I go to external drives it recognizes something is occupying the USB but it only shows me this volume bar that I can adjust. The music is playing from the iPod at that time but all my controls to see any playlists or songs have to be used via the iPod itself, nothing else is on my nav screen other than that volume control.

I still can't figure out what I'm missing on this one! My X5M is fully loaded, I noticed today that when I unplugged the USB in the arm console but left the aux plugged in the iPod kept playing. Therefore the USB from the BMW Y cable I'm using is worthless except for the sound coming from the aux. Is there another cable I'm suppose to use? Or am I suppose to stream it somehow to get my playlist on the Idrive and have functionality?

I have a 2011 X5M. You don't need Y-cable. You can use the standard Apple USB cable that comes your iPod/iPhone/iPad. Try that.

This is nuts! Ok so I've tried everything I think. White stock USB cord from apple did nothing. So I figured I would try my wife's old 2nd generation nano vs. my old 2nd or 3rd gen touch iPod. With the Y cable I took from my old 2010 x5 which my iPod functioned just great, I hooked up her nano in the X5M and it read in Idrive and all controls were usable just perfectly! Why her nano with the Y cable but not my iPod touch?
