I'm interested. Is this OEM solution? How can I add BMW apps on my x5m?

If you have a combox already, you just need coding. You will lose your BMW assist through the idrive if you want internet and bmw live through tethering your phone. The sunroof button will still work.

If you are pre 2011 and have a TCU, you will need to purchase a PnP harness from one of the established vendors and a combox and swap it. You may need to pay for an FSC enabling code for 6NR (connected drive) for your CIC if your software is above a certain level. Then you will need to pay for coding if you can't code yourself

So what exactly does this do? I see a google web page on the screen. How are you navigating pages and typing, on the iDrive wheel?

I'm honestly just trying to learn more about it and what you get from this with the sacrifice of BMW assist.

The browser is worthless. BMW live is pretty lame too and contains a few cloud based apps .

The iPhone apps platform for idrive is good if you want full control over certain apps via idrive. Check which apps are supported and see if it makes sense.

Hello, hope you can guide me here, this is my actual situation:
I don't have a Combox yet, also my car did not arrive with the 6NR option factory installed, my car was manufactured 2009-Oct-22.
After reading your post I don't understand the meaning of "TCU" can you please explain?
The BIG question here is, if I still have the chance to do a retrofit to Combox + 6NR ?
I would love to have internet access thru my iDrive screen, BMW Apps and other options available from the Combox+6NR package
I do have my VIN # detail if it helps in some way?
Thanks in advance!
Bernie

What all does this do? I feel there are only so many places you need to be "on the internet" since all smart phones can do this. What are the BMW Apps?

I asked this earlier and I'm still shaking my head at this idea. With everyone having a smartphone these days why would it make sense to spend the time and money adding this feature when there is no keyboard or touchscreen to navigate around? I just don't see what value this adds.

There is any way to get the 6NR option if you did not get it factory installed?

As far as I understand you can "mirror" you iPhone screen on the iDrive screen like you do it on an apple tv, that way you can use Waze for example as a navigation device, sounds cool for me.
