What have you towed? And what was the experience?
Hola! Looking to possibly get an enclosed trailer to haul some motorcycles. Looking in the range of 7x12. Bigger is better but I want to be able to still use my mirrors and not so long that driving it becomes a hassle.
My main concern is trailer weight and what kind of strain it's going to put on the trans... the trailer should be no more than 3500lbs which is far lower than max haul capacity. What kind of trailers have you hooked up with it and what was it like pulling them? I will be driving through mountains from time to tIme with the trailer. TIA

I had a 2011 X5M and traded for a 2012 X6M. I installed the execuhitch on both and tow a 16' open trailer with a Miata race car. Total weight is around 4,000. Tows like there is nothing back there. It certain doesn't feel like it's putting much strain on the drivetrain. Very stable. If you use the OEM trailer wire harness and have it activated - you will need to have a coder or the dealer do it - it activates some handy features like anti sway control and a zoom features for the ball mount area, complete with guide lines to help you back into position. My trailer has brakes so slowing down is drama free as well.

That's great to hear. Thanks for the feedback. I need to figure out how wide I can go without causing to much obstruction to the mirrors.
I think I'm going to go with one of the basic trailer hitch packages that bolt on. I don't want to spend $1000 or $1500 for the setup. |

I have a 2013 35d (similar torque to the M) with an Invisihitch installed along with the BMW OE harness. I tow my E92 M3 on a 20' open Trailex. Combo is about 4500 lbs and tows with ease. Get about 17-18mpg while towing. My Trailex is 8'6" wide.
One additional note on mirrors. I changed my side glass out for the Euro aspheric glass. I can see down the entire length of the trailer which I really couldn't do when the original glass was properly adjusted to eliminate blind spots. I highly recommend the swap. Super easy to do. Mine are heated/electrochromic and found the OE Euro glass on eBay for sub $300 for the pair.

Thanks for the feedback!
My concern with a larger trailer is seeing around the sides on an enclosed and being able to see when backing up, etc. I'm on the fence between 7' and 8' wide.

As for the mirrors. Part number is 51160421840. Its a Euro part, so I'm not sure if you can buy it here
