N63(50i) Software Recall

I just wanted to give everybody a heads up...I dropped off my 50i this morning for basic service(oil change, brake fluid flush, new spark plugs, and a new cabin filter) and just received a text from my SA at Ray Catena BMW

Thanks for the heads-up! Which model year is your X5 50i? Also, would you mind sharing how much the basic service (plugs, coils, etc.) at your dealership cost you?

I was given a brand new 50i as a loaner...not a fan of the new body style but damn the cinnamon interior is nice!

According to my SA, the plugs were changed back in February 2015 while I had it in for the N63 Campaign...somehow it came up when they took my key fob. I haven't experienced any issues with the truck, it runs perfect and pulls hard

I also asked them to check the front drive shaft even though that was changed as well during the N63 Campaign

Thanks.
I checked with my dealership and they are not aware of any recall for my X5. Please post SIB details if you have them.

Curious about this myself. New software was part of the N63 campaign, wondering if this is the same thing?

Your spark plugs were replaced less than a year ago under the N63 campaign? And you needed to replace them again, AND you paid $780 for that?

Original BMW parts and labor are guaranteed for 2 years, unlimited miles!

That bill BTW is outrageous ... Oil and filter change - $175 ... did you really pay those prices???

I told them to flush the brake fluid and to update the software...There's no way in hell I would ever pay the stealer ship that amount for an oil change, plugs, or a cabin filter

I totally forgot they were guaranteed for 2 years... she knew I was about to laugh in her face when she handed me that ridiculous bill

I was wondering about the oil change price . My dealer has coupons (and several dealers seem to) for $99.99 for a v8 oil change.

Cabin filter is a 30-min DIY (both inside and under the hood), with about $50 in parts for the filters.

AFAIK, plugs weren't included in the N63 CCP, so I'm surprised that they did it as part of CCP for you. Do you have the extended maintenance plan?

I'm not sure myself, I told her everything was done during the N63 campaign

I'll get the recall info tomorrow

I coded my truck using the BMWhat app, for some reason they only had my hazards on which I coded to double blink(euro style) and a few of their techs were hovering around my truck like a flock of vultures

I've bought 5 or 6 cars from this dealer, they usually do the right thing for me anytime I go in for service...they replaced the plugs and injectors for me during the campaign

My SA wasn't there today and was given some lady I've never seen before

I attached the recall paperwork...this is only for N63 owners

Ahh. . so they've finally released the 10k CBS update for the 2011's. When mine went in for the CCP, the one outstanding item I had was the update to the CSB for oil service from 15k to 10k (the update wasn't available yet).

It's too late for me to decode this letter. Need CliffsNotes! Is this different from the original N63 campaign?

Already had my coding wiped out once for the N63 campaign, don't want that to happen again. But can't live w/o custom coding

The reason for this recall is because BMW screwed up the software update for the oil change interval (15k miles to 10k miles) during the N63 campaign

I also had them check the front drive shaft to make sure it has the new part # which was also changed during the N63 campaign

Looks like I will have to re-code the truck this weekend
