I have this hitch as well,

installed it myself and it is fantastic. Difficulty level for self-installation I would say is relative advanced. Removal of rear bumper is the main PITA, if you want to do it clean and without scratches... took me about 8 hours all together. But it was great fun...

Hello Mhkm, good job you' ve done it yourselve, must have been quite an experiance, you could be proud on yourselve 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 . Perhapse a overdone question, but: dit you also installed and modified the standard software on the truck ? It's nessesary because the car automaticly adjust itselve due to the amount of force put on the hitch

That's pretty slick. Reminds me of some sort of James Bond accessory on his car.

Thanks, Blackbird535

Yes, I am very proud to have completed the install all by myself. I have posted the PDF for the install manual here on this forum, just search...
After finishing the install the dealer has to code the car for the new accessory to be recognized and function properly. Your rearview camera will zoom back (cool) and rear PDC will be disabled automatically when the hitch is connected (very cool).
And you are precisely correct, Socale... watching the hitch appear from nowhere all of a sudden when you hit the button is definitely James Bond, 007 ! !

Very nice. Do you happen to know if the receiver can be changed out for a 2" sq receiver?

Hey there Rusty...

by receiver do you mean the 50mm ball? If so I do not think so, because it is a one-piece forged steel unit.... very strong indeed. And if anything were to be added on to it, it would probably end up being too big to comfortably swing in under the bumper again. If you are talking about the electrical connection, it is the screw-in socket type prevalent in Europe. I believe there are adapters available for that....

So...

I would recommend changing the hitch on your trailer to ball and socket type? ....

Sort of what I was thinking... though I think it could possibly work if my proposed 2" receiver came out where your ball receiver starts to curve up. Where it looks like there's a ring on yours (for chain hooks?). Might be too low though.

I'll be using it for my bike rack, so changing to a ball and socket type unfortunately isn't an option.

Mind taking a picture from underneath when it is in the retracted position? ...no rush, whenever you get the time.

allows you to use multiple types of hitches

Can't you get an Execuhitch? That will allow you to swap out between a ball mount or bike rack connector, depending on which you need at the moment.

Yes I could, and that is the current plan, though if all I had to do was hit a button and the hitch wouldn't pop out that would be pretty nice.

Hi all,

An interesting discussion.
I don't think there is enough space behind the rear fender and beneath the Truck.
Here in the Netherlands the law says that: if you use your hitch in order tot tow a trailer, there has to be a savety cable/connection between the car and te trailer. This is ordered incase the trailer/car disconnects while driving. The minut the connection fails and the trailer stays behind, the savetycable (connected to the car) pulls by the cable (connected to the brake handle) on the trailer and so activates the trailerbrakes to prevent the trailer going everywhere on the road.

This connection point on the car is usually a hook or ring, permanently connected to the car's chassis directly around the trailer hitch. That is: in a normal situation when there is a permanent hitch or a Execuhitch, one you can disconnect by hand.
The Electric version doesn't have such a connection ring or hook, and it's not allowed over here just to wrap the trailerbreakcable around the towinghook/hitch.

So i tried to make such a hook or ring my selve, using a swivel hook connected tot the hitchbody with tie-raps. The swivel-hook wasn't even that big, but the hook, connected to the hitch was to big to comfortably swing in under the bumper again. There isn't just enough space underneath. it's just to tight / narrow behind the fender.
So wrapping the cable around was/is the only solution, hoping that i won't meet a dutch policeman while driving.
