Are 2013 50i exhaust different to other years?

Probably the engine like other BMWs, a preset throttle position = X amount of vacuum = valves open in exhaust.

I do notice if I lightly press throttle regardless of rpm the exhaust is quiet, as soon as I give around 50% throttle the exhaust instantly opens up (and/or turbos spool) and wonderful noises fill the cabin

Once I get my external mic I'll hook it up to the GoPro and record a new vid.

OK here is a quick clip I took with my GoPro of the X5 merging onto the highway at 50% throttle. At around 35 seconds you can immediately hear the change in tone as I roll into the throttle.
