LCI headlight retrofit

I had some spare time on Saturday, so I did it

I cannot take credit for figuring it out, I followed someone else's guide

I did leave it so the corona rings don't dim at night, they are super bright.....

I had already done the LCI tail lights with rear fog lights enabled a while back (old picture)

^^ It took about 5 hours including coding. The majority of it was spent struggling to get lower bracket that supports the headlight out. Its held on by two 8 mm bolts at the top (removable from the engine bay), but the lower bolt which bolts to the headlight is only removable after removing the fender liner. After removing those, there are a couple other bolts holding the bracket, and then you have have to slide the bracket down and out, except there almost isn't enough space to do this.

Once you get the bracket out, its four bolts holding the headlight, and it comes out easily.

For coding, I used WinKFP to write the VIN to the new FRM. Then I used NCSExpert in expert profile mode to write the FA (FA write) to the FRM. Then I coded it with SG coderien to default the module.

Then I coded it using my editing profile that allows for manipulation, and I changed the order date to #0411 and coded the FRM. I also coded things like foglights on with high beams, and high beam flash, double blink etc

+1 looks awesome!

Where did you end up buying the lights, if you don't mind me asking?

I ended up buying parts on Ebay and piecing together the headlights, otherwise, it was too expensive. Complete headlights sell for about $1000 a piece. If you buy the parts and assemble them, you can do it for about $600.

The FRM3 was bought from Morristown BMW for $260.

Great work, this is really the only "proper" upgrade for us who still rock the old headlights. Hats off to you sir!

Reviving old thread....

Recently retrofitted LCI headlights in 2010 X5d (build date 11/09).
Has original FRM3. Had BMW update all modules (02/16) prior to installing headlights

Before coding, everything seemed to work (except the corona rings were flickering)... while coding with Autologic, the corona rings immediately went full bright, but now I have no high beams, the adaptive headlights do not work and the CIC display is showing a whole list of lighting error messages

Do I need to purchase an updated FRM3 or is there something I missed in coding?
(vehicle date? or other?)

Still having issue after updating the Footwell module to 3/16 and coding with Autologic.
Everything works for a moment after switching the car on... Headlights go through their normal up/down and side to side initialization function, then a few minutes later I get the Adataptive Headlight error message on the cluster display (and a bar in my Nav screen that blocks the clock). Once that happens, the headlights will remain stationary until I shut the car off again.

^he said clock block

That would be great!
...or maybe I all I need to do is change the order date to #0411?

FSW_PSW - FRM3.txt

This is FRM3_E7X.C32.

If you run it through NCSDummy, you will see what all the options are.

Coded with FA date of #0411
