2011 BMW X5 50i engine malfunction

Hi everyone, im brand new to this forum and am in need of some serious help.

having a problem with my 2011 50i. Was driving normally And suddenly I got a check engine light and idrive saying “engine malfunction, reduced output”. Car then started jerking and reduced to about 30km. I parked the car on side road shit it off and then got the x5 towed to my usual shop.

The check engine light codes were: P0306, 2B1D1, 2B1C1.

The owner of the shop said we can try replace the spark plug and coil pack for cylinder 6 misfire. So he replaced it and no change.

aNyone ever have these codes and problems before?car is not drivable, when you rev the engine there is a ticking knocking sound. The mechanic is saying this is big problem problem and is internal maybe valve problem. Will probably cost an arm and a leg to open up and find the actual part that failed. The codes didn’t really tell him much.
Please if anyone can help me out with diagnosing the problem or if anyone had this codes before to please reply!! Thanks in advance

No idea, but I wish you the best of luck!

If it the car was a E60 M5/M6, or a E9x M3, it would mean a $2k+ of parts and labor.

Do you have access to another scanner...those last two codes don't make any sense. Either way I'd reset them and see what comes back.

Either way the N63TU is notorious for valve stem seals, which the cheapest I've heard starts at like $2500 and only goes up from there. Once redone it'll never come back though due to upgraded seals.

Right off the bat I Highly recommend you get someone or someplace with the proper BMW scanning tools to properly read the codes and diagnose. This is not an engine where you want someone who "the codes don't mean much to him" poking around inside and guessing. Might very well make an expensive repair even more so. Please find an experienced independent BMW shop.

If you clear the codes and get them read again properly, posting them here with the full descriptions will help others with experience help you further. Along with mileage, condition of removed spark plug, any and all info.

+ above info on valve stem seals, but there could be other things making the ticking.

Good Luck sir. Pls do update this thread here for others' benefit. I have a '12 50i so very interested.

I’ve had bad valve stem seals in a bmw. They don’t make any noise when bad, smoking and oil loss are the symptoms. Also they won’t cause the engine to go into reduced power mode and run badly.

Get it to an actual bmw expert, or pull the actual codes, and start from there. Ticking could be a lot of things.

Has the engine under gone the customer care package (ccp)? These engines are known to have injector failures and timing changing problems.
