2010 X6M I-Drive system

My car is finally in production! Just have a question about the new I-drive system in the 2010 model years. My wife has a 09 335ic with the new idrive system and she has a hard drive with here system that allows your download music off your cd's into the hard drive. I noticed on the X6 standard options list that the nav system is DVD based and not hard drive based. Is this true? Can anyone with the new I-drive system verify this?

True, 2010 gets the new system. No big deal, hard drives are sort of obsolete. Better off with USB/iPOD/Sat radio. You would think BMW would have used a solid state drive instead of some lame ass seagate tiny hard drive. The was cool in a car 5-10 years ago.

The X6M does indeed have the hard drive based navigation. You can also download your music to the HD via the USB interface in the glove box.

I agree... the X6M and X5M are hard drive-based system and you can indeed download your music. The drives aren't terribly huge but hey, its still better than DVDs. I also agree that in 2009, BMW is deserving of solid state drives to bolster its image. Geesh! But, in the X6M, I won't worry so much. The THRILL is in the ride!

considering that the price of solid state has dropped a bunch can not think of a reason BMW would still be doing hard drives.

My X6 came with the 6-dvd changer in the glove box, it collects dust as I have ipod nano plugged in that is easier to update (don't have to burn dvd's) and only takes up a small amount of space. Do folks that don't have the dvd in the glove box have a bigger glove box ?

I read somewhere that BMW took features away from the newiDrive. For one, you can no longer make a phone call by voice name,

i.e. "Call John Davis"

The current system automatically sync your phone contacts to the car's iDrive each time you start the car. Not even Lexus does that.

But for some reason, advanced voice recognition and the phone integration was dumbed down. Not sure why.

Really? That sucks. Wonder why???? I love the way the voice recognition works in my 2009 car. Curious.......

I have to check on the voice recognition piece. I am pretty sure the demo allowed you to do this.. will check and report back. Was that for the entire lineup of the 2010?
