Is the BMW Maintenance Program Upgrade worth it?
Just curious as to how many drivers opted for the BMW Maintenance Program Upgrade. I still have time to decide whether to get this or not.
$2,295 for 6 yrs/100K miles....not sure if I come out ahead or not? Of course I am buying my vehicle and not leasing it. |

I opted for it. If nothing else, the oil changes and the brakes will be a significant part of it.

I think it's worth it if you are going to daily drive the car for 6 yrs/100K miles. It's nice knowing you can just bring it to the dealer when the car tells you to. BUT, you do not need to buy it in advance. You can buy it anytime during the standard 4 yr/50K warranty/maintenance period ... It might go up in price over time though. Also, the price is negotiable with your dealer. When I looked into it for my M3 I was able to get 10% off. I ended up not going for it because I did the math and using BMW's maintenance schedule I don't put enough miles on the car for it to be worth it (only 5K a year).

Great point. I put about 25,000 miles a year on my daily driver (which this is) so I will get to 100,000k pretty quick. If you don't drive enough to approach major maintenance, I'd pass.

The only way to know for sure is to calculate your mileage and the service you will need during the life of the plan. most folks hit 6yr and 72k miles, assuming 12k miles per year. So the plan is really a 6yr/72k mile plan. Which means you are paying in advance for potential maintenance that will occur from 50k-72k miles, or 22k miles of driving on average.
