2013 CIC Navigation Professional Update Problem

I have a 2011 X70 50i, with the original maps (CIC), and wanted to update as there have been a lot of changes to the local roads here in Seattle. The local dealers were lagging behind TomTom and asked something close to $450 with parts and labor - so I ordered mine online directly from store.bmwgpsmaps.com, where it sells for about $250.

It took them 10 days to get it out, but finally I got the USB stick in the mail, along with a printed letter with the activation code. The code is based on the VIN, and I double checked that the VIN is correct on the order as well as the activation letter itself - but the car wouldn't accept it saying it's wrong. It is 20 characters as expected. I tried entering it 4 times.

Has anyone had this happen? Is there a trick I'm missing somewhere or they just shipped a bogus code?

Well, the seller doesn't appear to be in any way related to BMW corp., so it's possible you have an interesting journey ahead of you...

Not to be a Monday morning q-back, but there's quite recent thread on another forum (ends with ...fest) right on this subject, that mentions proved official vendor with better prices.

Well, actually, the vendor is TomTom, which is the actual maps provider. I got the link form the BMW website anyway.

Thanks for the pointer - I'll check the other forum!!

An update. Spoke to TomTom, they admitted that the USB stick is something relatively new and they've had a few problems there. Promised to get back to me within 48 hours with a solution of some sort.

After a couple of days, they got back to me with a new code that worked. Admitted there was an error generating it the first time, and now it's all good and updated. Next time it might be worth going through other channels, but this certainly beats the dealer price.

Hi All:

I have a 2010 X5 E70 35d, with the original maps (CIC). I have questions about the self updating my navigation map. I have done some search on the google and got different answers so I want every one who can direct me in the right way. If I update my navigation to 2013 version from 2009, should I just buy either or both "65902338094 USB for Update" and "65902304629 CIC Map Update"? could any one who can tell me what are they different? Thanks

"Both the USB media and the map upgrade are need to perform the update."

To update your maps you will need both. The USB media and the FSC code that is specific to your vehicle and the version of the software. You can get the software and code from getbmwparts.com. I think price for the USB media is around $45.00.
