Sigh. So the clowns at the dealership now tell me that the 215s will not fit since they came from an x5 m. Funny thing is, I bought them at the dealership last summer where they were being stored for another forum member. Drove my X down there and specifically asked their service guys to make certain the wheels would fit prior to making the transaction -- they gave it their blessing. Left the wheels there until today when I drove in to have them installed. They say they will resolve the issue, not sure how but I am waiting to see what they come up with before reading them the riot act.

A quick search of the forum reveals there is a discrepancy in hub size between X5 & x5m. It seems to have been discussed to death here, though I guess it's no longer safe to assume that a dealership is a good resource for this kind of information. Sad.

fatmatt0116,

Yes, this has been discussed to death. The rear wheel bore on the X6, X5M, and X6M are the same AND are different to the X5.

You could have rears bored out if you really want them.

I called 2 wheel shops and asked the dealer, no one knows where I can get them bored. Additionally, the dealer says the fronts wont fit without adapters.

The fronts are the same. You're not getting the truth there.

X5 E70 = PCD 5x120, center bore 74.0mm and M14x1.25 bolt thread.

X6 E71, X5M, X6M = PCD 5x120, center bore FRONT 74.0mm, center bore REAR 72.5mm and M14x1.5 bolt thread.

I put X6 wheels on my X5. I had to have the rears bored out to 74.1mm.

that's what I thought and I called the service department back and told them that and they said "no it just doesn't fit."

lol, where did you get your rears bored? I'm actually in Boston.

Mine were done by Proformance Industries in New Rochelle, NY. They did a good job. Unfortunately, they took weeks to get them done.

I couldn't find anywhere in CT...

you could always just get a set of H&R hub adapter/spacers

they will push the wheels out ~ 10 mm but will allow you to adapt the one hub bore for the other... real simple and ~ 100 bux

does anyone here have any experience with the adapter/spacers? I mentioned this to the idiots @ the dealership and they said "they can get warped and cause wheel vibration/wobble"

There are no H&R, or any other brand of, hub adapters that will do this "adapting" of these wheels so they will fit on the X5.

There are some for the 5-series that look like they might work and a vendor sold them to me. I had to return them as they did not work.

Unfortunately, yes. There have been many posts on this on other forums.

I had purchased the X6 wheels from a FL seller and had purchased the H&R adapters which supposedly would work. When I found they didn't, I had to have the rears bored as I couldn't return the wheels (and didn't want to sell them).

Okay, well as long as the fronts will fit without any modifications (would you please confirm this), I've located a machine shop in south boston that can bore the rears.

215s

Finally got them on after a great deal of hassle, but I must admit I am extremely pleased with their appearance and the ride quality is excellent. Many thanks to Brian5 for his invaluable insights.

Now debating whether or not to lower the car with the H&R springs, I'd appreciate any opinions on that, thanks.

Carbon fiber mirror covers maybe?

Looks perfect to me as well! If anything, get the wheel arches painted body color and your set. Very nice looking X5!

Thanks. I guess you guys are right, it doesn't need lowering. I did think about painting the arches but I read that the paint chips off easily. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has done it.
