X6 50i MPG so far...

Anyone that thinks they are going to get close to 15+mpg is in for a shocker.

So far with only 130 miles on the odometer I am averaging 11.5mpg and this is mixed driving between tollroad and city driving. I have somewhat of a heavy foot but have not floored it yet and have only driven to about 120 once and for a short time on tollroad.

I an hoping that once the car is broken in that I will see 12.5-13mpg in normal driving 16-18 on highway.

You should see the looks you get with this car!

What's your impression on the drive so far (engine sound, power, handling, etc.)?

I am not surprised. I would expect the MPG to mirror that of the X5 V8 very closely which is why I opted for the 6 cyl. I get about 17-19 in mixed driving and 22-24MPG strictly hwy with 4k miles on the clock.

Are you filling with gas and dividing the miles driven by gallons used? This is the best way to determine MPG. The onboard computers can be misleading.

However, I think the power and sound of the V8 must be awesome as it is on my neighbor's X5 V8.

Enjoy....... I'm very jealous!!!Keep us posted on that MPG.Also, when you start pushing the car in the twisties.....Can you hear the DPC rear end working? Some owners indicate it makes a somewhat " mechanical" noise doing it's job.The "Exclusivity" factor is real....I traveled over 2,000 road miles the last two weeks all over the Southeast US......always on the lookout for interesting cars.I have seen "zero" X6's on the road or in the cities I visited.About as rare as a Ferrari siting....at least in the part of the world I travel. Thanks! I knew when I ordered my 50i that mpg would not be astounding but if it ends up being close to published numbers then that's acceptable. Most new cars I've had didn't settle in to their mpg until they had 2k on them. I will try to control my lead foot so I can contribute to the mpg numbers.

I will always be able to afford to drive it so I intend to have fun.

AMAZING!!! Well worth the 11.5mpgs. I have actually gotten that number up to about 11.8mpg with 170 miles on odometer so it appears to be getting a little better.

Haven't filled my first tank yet but will definitely do tha calc as well. The sound of the V8 is better than any V8 I have ever heard before and sounds closer to the M5 or M6 than a typical V8. I love it and it turns so many heads. It is amazing how fast it feels with all the torque. Definitely feel alot faster than the 550i (although specs are close to same) and feels a lot faster than my Lexus IS350 but definitely not as nimble but it will certainly take corners faster.

Was nto sure about HUD but I am loving it and it is amazing with cruise control or navigation.

My only two complaints so far are the fact that the rear view camera does not turn on quick enough because it takes too long to initially load once you start car and the fact that it does not seem that you store an HD 2 radio station into a preset. If you are on a channel, say 106.1 HD2 and try and store it into one of the presets or 6 memory buttons it will always go to the 106.1 HD1 because it appears to go to 106.1 and then the HD signal is slightlu delayed.

Other than those complaints I LOVE IT and would not trade it for anything else right now.

Oil just tanked $5/barrel on Friday so we should be good for a little while.

I am definitely going to call BS on anyone that claims they will get more than 15-16 in city or 20 on hwy. My old IS350 I used to drive pretty hard and would punch it all the time and could still manage 17.5MPG and if I drove the X6 anyway close to the way I used to drive the IS350 then I would probably be getting about 9.5-10mpg. Oh well, didn't buy the X6 for gas mileage and bought for performance and styling and it has certainly lived up to that!

I think the numbers published are very realistic. My IS350 was publshed at 20/29 and I usually get 17.5/26.5 so if I am getting 11.8 with the X6 when the published is 13 then I figure I will be right about that once it breaks in.

I knew that too but what options do we have to help mpg?
better HP air filters, better free flowing exhaust?

Great, I hope that is the case. the more miles acumulated the better the mpg's get.

mpgs are already getting a little better. I have driven about 60/40 city driving/hwy/tollroad driving and with 200 miles on odometer I have a 1/4 tank left and the onboard computer is now showing 12.7mpg. Have not driven it aggressive at all since my original post.

I will also have to say that turbo lag has been very minimal so whatever BMW did in delaying availability due to this seems to have helped.

You have a 22.5 gal tank. Each 1/4 on the gauge is about 5.5 gals. So 3/4 tank is about 16.5 gal divided into 200 miles is about 12.2MPG so you digital readout is pretty accurate. I know the one on my X6 is incredibly accurate.

MY X6 MPG is going up about 1MPG every 1k miles. Started at 15-20 as per the sticker. Now with 3-4k miles on the truck, I am getting 15-17 city and 21-24MPG hwy.

Agree Chuck - I've now hit 7000 and consumption settled around the same as yours seems to be hitting. I just ran a mixed return trip to the airport this PM - 90 miles total of which 70 was tollway / interstate and 20 miles of 2-lane Sunday afternoon stop/start. I averaged 20.2MPG for the 90 miles.

That's with the 3.0TT however.... expect you big brothers in the 4.4TT to struggle to get that high - but look forward to seeing the results come in as the milages start to climb!!

Cheers, Anteater

Thought I would update everyone. My second tank I got 11.875 mpg and third tank I only achieved 11.667 mpg. This was achieved by dividing total miles by gallons purchased. Each time I would only fill up until gas lever clicked first time. The third tank I drove a litte more aggressive and probably floored it 4 or 5 times. Although, gas mileage sucks the reward of driving experience is worth every penny!!!

I hope gas mileage gets a little better and I see closer to 13 in city. Most of my driving is city with some tollroads mixed in.

My 50i is getting about 12.8/12.9 with about 870 miles on it (and 3 tankfuls of gas). I used the divide miles driven by gallons method and was surprised to find the computer to accurate. It went down to 12.8 the week I was driving more aggressively.

I am very happy with this mileage for car that is this new, haven't done long highway trip yet but have one coming up in October to Monterey.

Oh and I have done some aggressive cornering and I listened for DPC noise and there was none. So far only noise I hear is the 6 dvd when I change the mp3 cd's.
