If you search/google hardwiring radar detectors - there's some pretty good instructional guides how to pick up a ACC 12V feed from the overhead console.
On phone right now but will post a link later if you don't find what you need. |

To get the top dome light panel out all you need to do is pry it out with a trim tool or screwdriver if your careful...make sure while prying it out you push the clips in with your fingers near the front of the dome light housing...I found it easier to begin prying it out from the side then making your way toward the front Last edited by Cattivo; 01-10-2016 at 06:26 AM.. |

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the information. I'm getting closer and closer to all i want to know ! I saw the youtube video and it gives more info but it concerns a E53. However i took the advice and googled around my selve and found some interesting items, so many thanks. # Cattivo: your link is great, it's an important step in the right direction. Knowing the difference between the red and the green-white one, and that's important info, if you don't want your battery to drain. The only info still missing is the way how to remove and instal the rearview mirror on an E70 ? Anyone ? My idea is to mount the dashcam directly on to the black cover that's on to the windschield, housing the rainsensor and other stuff, and also there where the mirror is somehow connected Info is welcome, THX ! |

An other question:
When hardwiring a dashcam or radar detector, you have to find + and - in to the cars wiring harnas. That's a problem easy to solve. But than the next isue: my dash cam can get power by 2 different kind of cables: - the first is a sort of mobilephone connector on one side and on the other side of the cable is an USB-plug; - second one is the same mobile phone-plug ( this side goes into the cam) and on the other side is the plug that goes into the cigaret lighter. in both situations the connecting cable is the same. Black, round about 3 mm. If i want to use this cable ( one of them) to hardwire the cam, how do i split this black cable ? how many threads are inside this cable just 2 ?? or more ? and which one is pos and whice one is neg. ? If there are any experts on this matter, please your help an advice. |

Dude, for (-), just attach it to the body, a.k.a. "ground".
And I wouldn't mess with the mirror mount cover, usually it's a bitch to split and results in broken tabs/need for new cover. Just tuck the wire b/w the windshield and headliner. |

Just a note or warning to be carefull where you mount the dash cam behind the mirror. There are sensors on the backside of the mirror that you don't want to block. Light sensor and auto high beam sensor.

Were you able to hardwire in your X5m, I am also looking for some thoughts about hard wiring a radar detector, any comments are appreciated.
