Same here on my 12 diesel. I have ordered the see-through mesh for the passenger side, from 50i.

This post is pretty ironic.

Some people just appreciate the details.

Good call - going to order one up as well. The closed-out grill looks a bit cheesy to me to be honest.

Part number appears to be: 51117222858

Why? They didn't need the air. I believe the V8 has dual air intakes for the added displacement; the diesel only has an intake on one side. If the duct doesn't lead anywhere on the diesel, then chances are that it is better to close it out from an aerodynamic perspective...I think : )

FYI - getbmwparts.com has the replacement grill for $31.43. They just pull out and pop in.

The diesel has the DEF reservoir/pump on the passenger side behind that mesh, that's why it's hidden behind a solid piece. I hope it can take some extra dust. I popped the grill out when I was changing my fogs and it doesn't look that bad to me.

Good looking out...

Maybe there is a way to snap in the new grill and still block the duct behind it...will investigate and report back at some point : )

You guessed right.

Good for you then. I'm for one appreciate all the info and detail on the subject when I Google it and thankful to those who took the time to explain and provide it, even if it's something small and unimportant. Makes it that much faster to get to the bottom of things.

You sound like a tool. That is not meant to be offensive, just my opinion based on the fact that you would laugh at anyone else for doing something simple that they enjoy.

Have a good one.

I'd be more worried about the cold air flowing over it during the winter then dust but I guess not everyone gets to enjoy the cold like us.

How exactly do they pop out, I need to do the passenger foglight this spring.

Thanks!

Just pull and it will pop out. You can kind of work it around the perimeter to snap out the various tabs.
