I ordered it yesterday morning, like I said with engraving, and they shipped it yesterday. Pretty damn fast. It cost $199.99 Canadian. Now the hard part...which 16GB of my 22GB music collection will make the cut. PS - I bought the Silver Nano to go with my Grey car.

I gave in and got so frustrated with trying convert aac to mp3s. I broken down and purchased an ipod interface connector from a BMW dealership. The total cost was $667.68, ipod interface part was $370.00, labor (2 hours) was $254.00 and tax was $43.68. It was worth the cost compared to the aggravation.

Yes, that is correct you can play all of you itunes songs and playlist. I am trying find out if you can play your videos. The only thing I don't care for is it takes a while to go through all of the artist if you have a lot. You use the dial to scroll through the artist. There may be a quicker way, but I have not found it yet. I just got the vehicle today.

Thanks for the info. It's awesome that I can play protected files through the iPod. Another question for you: How long does it take from when you plug in iPod/start car with iPod plugged in to show all song/album info? The reason I ask is my cousin has a Ford with Microsoft Sync and when she plugs her iPod in it takes about 3-5 minutes to build the library. BMW iDrive the same?

I timed it and it takes 57 seconds to build the library for 923 songs. There is a very slight lag when you are searching artist or songs if you turn the dial very quickly. The idrive will show numbers instead of artist or song names until the system catches back up, which is a matter of seconds. Also, there is a slight increase in volume when you change songs for a split second and then the system will go back to the orginal volume level. Other than the issues mentioned everything is fine. I thought that they would have used the usb in the glove box for the ipod. No, they made a separate connection for the ipod. I guess the usb is for charging cell phones. I need to read the owners manual this weekend to see if there is anything I need to do to fine tune the system.

i don't know about an external USB hard drive, but hopefully the USB port will be able to provide adequate power to run the motors. one thing you might have trouble with is organizing your music into playlists. I'm not sure how to transfer multiple playlists from a single source (your external HD) to your car's hard drive. when i burn an MP3 DVD, the ENTIRE dvd ends up being one HUGE playlist which can be really difficult to navigate. once the music is in the car's HD, you can't really make new playlists (and you probably wouldn't WANT to given the iDrive controller...). what i did was burn one DVD for each playlist. perhaps you could separate the music on your hard drive into unique folders (one folder per playlist you want to appear in your car). try plugging in the HD into the various USB ports (glove box, then the center arm rest) and let us know how it goes! welcome to xbimmers! |
