New Owner Here. Hello all!

My Wife and I just picked up a 2011 3.5i for her DD, and so far couldn't be happier. We got an OK deal (but not great), but that's fine with us. I have no issues spending a little more up front for a nice, clean, low mileage car. It's only got 55k on it so far. I will be calling a BMW dealer tomorrow to set up a time to get the air bags and fuel pump replaced. As far as I know, that's the only open recalls for it. I've been doing some research, and it seems as though I need to keep an eye on the WP and T-stat, so I will do that.

Now a little about me. I'm a technician professionally (not on cars though), and a major gearhead. I do all of my own work and maintenance, and plan to with this car too. For the last 8 years or so, I've been playing with Subarus, but the wife wanted something a little nicer this time. Her Forester treated us well, but it was time for an upgrade. I look forward to learning more about this platform as time goes on. This seems to be a pretty active and informative forum.

Welcome to the forum! I too have an ‘11 with 55, about to be 56k miles. Great cars. Very reliable. There’s also a driveshaft recall. Best of luck!

Welcome!

Sounds like a nice purchase, and I'm with you, would rather spend a bit more for a vehicle I know is a safer bet, better condition, etc. Any pics?

BTW, it's actually a 3.0 if we're using periods

I understand that it has a 3.0l straight 6, so why does it say 35i on the side of the damn door?

I stopped by the dealer to set up an appointment for the recalls and found out that the driveshaft and driver's airbag have already been done. I'm not looking forward to having them remove the entire dash to do the passenger airbag. Here's hoping everything works, I don't end up with any new scratches, and there are no rattles when they're done. They are ordering the airbag and the fuel pump today, and will let me know when they are in.

And one more random question. Is this the N54 or N55 engine? I'm finding conflicting information.

Just badging is all it is. The #'s used to reflect size of motor in liters years ago, they no longer do in most cases (the 320i still does, for example). A lot of 35i owners say 3.5, just like 50i owners will say 5.0...that's Mustang talk! The 50i is a 4.4L. I think a lot of people write it that way to make it sound like they have a bigger displacement motor? Or they're just misinformed.

I just had my driver's airbag swapped, still waiting on the passenger airbag. Did they indicate it was coming in soon? My dealer said they haven't received any of those. And yah, genius engineering, the entire dash has to come off to swap that one out :roll eyes:

The 35i has the N55.

I got a call from the dealer that the parts are already in, so I guess they didn't have to come from very far. I'm scheduled to drop it off on the 13th. I'll see if I can get them to take pics of the process. I fully plan on giving the tech a tip, while asking him to slow down a little bit and replace all the clips that break. $50 now is small change to not have to chase rattles later on. jiggz , have your dealer call my dealer It's getting done at Schomp BMW in Littleton, CO

Welcome to the forums, you will definitely learn a lot from the resources given off of here. Many of the topics for the questions you'll have in the near future are definitely on here or will be pointing to where you should go. I have a 2011 35i myself, around 95K and it's been pretty damn reliable. Some have more than 100K on here in the same years so as you know, treat the car right, it'll treat you right and you're golden.

Any pictures? Interior/exterior we may all see? What are your plans for the E70?
