Engine malfunction/reduced power N63

Was on a road trip from Washington state to Utah and got this warning towards the end. I'm pulling a trailer but it's not very heavy. Probably around 2500lbs.

Anyways, just dropped her off at pleasant grove bmw. They are saying low boost is the cause of the issue, but need time for engine to cool down before they can touch it. Wouldn't you know my warranty just barely expired too.

Did it drive or perform any differently after that warning?

I've had that trigger twice on my 50i. Both times I just turned off the vehicle, restarted it, and the warning message went away. Car never drove any differently. After the 1st time, BMW checked it out for codes and it came back clean? This last time I just ignored it

The other day my M3 threw an SOS/phone malfunction error. I have never even used that feature, totally random. It went away after a few seconds, never saw it again. These cars sometimes...

Hopefully that dealer gets you handled, good thing you were nearby a BMW service center.

Yeah, it struggled to keep speed climbing grades and maintaining a cruising speed once set.

The dealership just called saying the vacuum pump is the issue and it's a $600 part which isn't too bad, but it's 17hours of labor. So my grand total is will be a around $3400 with tax. Plus I had to rent a truck to continue on my road trip totaling $300. $3700 is insane on a vehicle with a great service history and low miles.

I have a call into customer relations and am hoping the fact that last year in September I spent $3000 in 3 weeks of diagnostic, labor, and parts only to find my O2 sensors went out on my garage queen '09 M3. I can't stomach 7k in keeping my BMWs on the road per year.

Warranty just expired? Did you ask for a "good will" fix? They usually will help you out up to six months past an original 4 year warranty but not on the extended warranties

Said they have to remove turbos to get to it? If they're lying we'll likely figure that out now that BMWs customer relations is involved I'd think right?

I'll have to ask about that. Honestly, I'm in a place where if they don't pick up the tab I'm going to go dump it on trade somewhere and be done with BMW. It will drive fine when I'm not pushing it, but as soon as I really lean into it the light pops on. Then turns off when the Rpms drop.

I texted my buddy to get details and how long it took him but I know there's no way he pulled the turbos because I'd have had him throw on my S63TU headers since he would have been that deep into it.

Maybe the book says to remove the turbos but you don't actually have to do it. They usually just look up the job slide their finger to the right and charge you the standards hours...an Indy would more likely charge you the real hours but that's not a guarantee.

Trunk latch misaligned? We have to remove the turbos to fix that...

Update

Bmw NA called saying it wouldn't be till next week that I hear anything. I called the dealer and told them to put it back together. They tried to charge me for in depth diagnosis and tear down which I never auth'd. They said the total would be $928. I said I wouldn't pay it and the service tech then said he misunderstood and I'd only be charged $128 diagnosis, but that they'd eat the labor to put it back together.

Hours later he called back saying they'd eat the labor if I'd pay for parts cause I was only 5 months out of warranty to which I was like "yes please!" So it's going to take a few days to put back together I guess he said 2-3, but at least I'm back on the road.

What are they charging you for parts? Either way it sounds like a good deal...me being skeptical though I wonder why they're suddenly singing a different tune.

I think they had it all torn apart already and I am being charged around $600 in parts. They're likely making lots of money on parts, but I'm going to scream when I talk to BMW NA. I'm down a full week and it broke down while on vacation so I had to rent a car the entire time. Plus delay my return home 4 days because they didnt have the part in stock to fix it. Seriously every time I go in to the dealer I'm met with extremely disappointing news and huge delays in getting my cars returned to me. Not what you expect in a luxury brand.

It's really not much over 30 percent, in some cases less than that.

It's the swag and extra items in the shop like pens and belt buckles where they make a killing

Picked her up yesterday. My total was $158 and she's fixed. Pulled my tandem axel haulmark trailer from SLC to Washington with no issues. It was a nightmare at first but I think BMW NA heard my case and worked with the dealership to get me fixed and back on the road.

did they say specifically what was repaired? I bet it had a vacuum leak issue?

They're for my own install that I'll do eventually when I'm motivated enough to pull the turbos and get them rebuilt.

Sorry for the delay in response. Yes, they are...they can be machined down though, there are pics on the forums here of it.
