BMW Branded Extended Warranty?

Lets say you buy a 2013 BMW with a CPO in place and it expires in six months.

Can you purchase a BMW branded extended warranty for 3 years or so? I'm not talking about a Fidelity Warranty.. more so a BMW branded policy that actually protects you rather than having to fight with an aftermarket warranty company.

Same goes for if you purchase a 13, that still has the remaining 4 year factory in place.

You can, but it will be prohibitively expensive. You are much better off just banking the money and paying for maintenance as you go. Especially for the lower maintenance 3.5i, the years will fly by, and you'll be frustrated you spent thousands in excess for the warranty.

Well to give you an idea, my 2012 35i has 118k miles on it so far, the only big item I have had to replace was the transfer case, got a rebuilt one for 1k and installed it myself, if the dealer did it it was over 6k, cars been great otherwise. Just maintenance witch warranties won't cover.

It's really a roll of the dice, some won't give you an issue some will and you could have one and a trans fail or whatnot.

It's up two you if it's worth the piece of mind. Since I do all of my own work on the car and have good connections to get parts on the cheap it's far cheaper just to deal with it for me.

If your not going to get your hands dirty a warranty isn't a bad thing on these cars. The BMW warranty will only cover drivetrain and other things but won't be bumper to bumper, so if your stereo fails your up a creek, be sure to read what they won't cover. Also their are some reputable 3rd party warranty companies that will give you a bumper to bumper warranty but they are hard to find. Also the better ones are usually sold from your credit union and you can't get them otherwise.

Yea, I realize the 35i is reliable.. I was eyeing a 12 550i and thought the warranty would be good for that.

My moms 13 X3 35i has had no issues really other than maintenance.

I guess I should avoid the 4.4L TT motor.. it just seems like too much work.

I'm also eyeing the 35d X5s.

For a 5-series, you could buy route 66's easy street pkan, hands down the best 3rd party warranty. You could buy a 5 yr/100k plan for about $2500.

I just bought a 2013 35i last fall /w 22k miles,warranty expires 7/17 and in the same boat. I don't drive the car at all-wife loves it thou.
I was offered a PWI warranty at the indie dealer I bought it from,84 month/100k miles for $2600(although the first 8 were still under BMW).
The BMW dealer she has taken it too (couple cosmetic (covered) issues) said they will give a quote on one when her next service comes.
I have owned a lot of cars and never considered one but might well with this one-plastic water pump for instance that fails as early as 40k !

My last warranty on my 08 4.8 sport cost me $1200 (absurdly low) and covered $14k in 4 years. I'm not sure how you would justify driving an x5 without a warranty unless you are a mechanic already. You're going to spend the money so why not hedge against exposure to catastrophic failure.

Dealer is willing to sell me a 3 year warranty, bumper to bumper for 48 Months, 55,000 miles, $100 deductable for $3000. This is on a 13 X5 35i with 36,000 miles.
