X6 2009 35i white smoke and water from left exhaust tip??
Hey guys
New member here. After owning an E53 for last 2 years I went and bought a 2009 X6 35i TwinTurbo. Very happy with it, however I've been noticing that the left hand side (passenger side in Australia - right hand drive) exhaust tip blows a bit of white smoke when initially starting it up for the first few minutes. Then after a while, the smoke is gone but there is still water in the tip and there is a lot of heat coming out. The driver side exhaust tip however does not have any smoke, no water and no heat coming out (only little bit of warm heat)! Is this something I should be concerned about? I have 3 months statuary dealer warranty where they have to fix anything that could be wrong. Should I take it back to them or is it just condensation/combustion by-product that I've been gathering from forums online... Also, I'm planning on installing a JB4 Stage 3 tune... is this a good idea? Is it safe? Thanks guys Last edited by Rvinggg; 10-10-2014 at 09:36 AM.. |

My 2012 X5 3.5 did this too recently and it had about 39,000 miles. I took it in to the dealer and they decided it was my turbo causing the problem and replaced it.
The mechanic said he could tell that the turbo was leaking oil over time. When starting after sitting several hours, the oil caused the smoke. I would definitely make sure yours gets assessed before you get near the end of the warranty.
