Test drove a 5.0 and the M when trading in my 08 M3. The M is well worth the extra money.......Steve

I thought so too, Steve. Initially I felt the X5 was great, but when trading it in my husband opted for the M. Love the BMW brand. Once I drove the X5 I was sold, but I was amazed at the differences between that and the M.

I have a loaded 5.0 and am contemplating the M first quarter of next year. Is it worth the jump? The effort of switching? My 5.0 is loaded with every option except adaptive drive.

I'm sure the most basic X5M model is better than the most well equipped 5.0i. Our X5M is loaded but that put it about $15k over base price.

I'd say that depends on how you drive and how you use your car. I'm sure their are a lot of people who would rather have a loaded 5.0i than a base X5M.

What's the typical fuel consumption for the X5M? For comparison, in city driving with my 2007 X5 4.8i I get at best 13mpg (18L/100km). Highway driving I can get up to 23mpg.

Great question!! My trip computer is showing 17mpg at an average of 35mph (due city/highway mix) over 2000 miles
I do well in suburban areas when I don't have to hit a lot of lights and I get 22-23 on the highway. But... if I get on the throttle to play, I burn a lot of gas!! So, my average of 17 would come down into the 15s or 16s if I stomped on the throttle continuously. What about the M, guys? X5 5.0

Worth it.
You cannot go wrong with the M. I came from a 2008 X5 4.8 Sport after a 2008 Caynne GTS and a 2006 X5 4.4 before that.
It is so much more than the horsepower... It is steering, throttle response, suspension, brakes, dynamic drive with the split torque distribution. My opinion worth every penny, MPG is not great, I average about 14.2 with average speed of about 35 mph and lost of stop and go. But really not much worse than my 4.8 was at about 14.8 and the Cayenne GTS was in the 13's. |

Cool.
1.) What does the M button do? 2.) What mpg can you get on a highway trip?

.) What does the M button do?
2.) What mpg can you get on a highway trip? __________________ The M button is actually "sport mode" . It changes the electronic throttles to respond more quickly equating to more output. Hence the gas mileage!! As for your highway query, I think we got about 18 mpg going to VA. But again that was on 95 and we hit a ton of traffic. Taking a trip to Ohio end of April, so that should be a better gage. How do you like your 1's? We a looking for a car for our 19yr old daughter and loved the One when I got it as a loner from my dealer. Colleen |
