X5M

Make sure you know what you want in a vehicle before you make the leap to the X5M. It is expensive. It gets poor gas mileage. It is NOT a winter car, despite the AWD. It is not a sports car, despite reasonably good handling qualities. If you have a neer to haul cargo (inside or on the roof), or need a winter car, or want to pull a trailer, get a 4Runner for less than half the money. So what's left over? Beats me, but I love mine.

Hey... I have a 2009 X5... it drives great but don't waist your money on additional features. I have the backup camera on my car and it's a total waist. When I put my car in reverse it takes forever for the camera to turn on, by the time it actually does turn on (with no help from my camera) I have backed out of my parking spot and I am already driving. The camera even stays on on when I am in drive mode (which i had yet to understand why), and when it's on and I am driving the on board computer is frozen I can't do anything, change radio stations, pick up phone calls, or even turn down the music.

Sorry to hear of your issues. Though, these problems are solved with the new iDrive which does not use the slow DVD anymore, but a hard disk. Thus startup is also much faster.

I have to disagree with you on a few points. I traded my 08 M3 in on my X5M and on summer tires it kicks ass. I am not saying it will compete on the track with an M3, but it handles better then most cars on the road. As for winter, you cannot expect the standared wheels and tires to work. Just as with my M3 going with a square setup with 275-285 dedicated snow and wheel package will handle great in the winter.......Steve

Why X5M is NOT a winter car? May not be able to compare with some typical 4x4. But whats wrong driving X5M in winter? At least it's better than RWD right?
X5M uses only a bit more gas than my M3 does.

We need details and pics. What did you trade in? Any comparisons to other cars/SUVs you've owned or recently driven?

Have you compared the X5M to the X50i ? We are in the market also to trade in the existing E70 and are waiting on the LCI to arrive before we compare the two. would be interested to hear any real world feedback....

Cheers

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Cayenne GTS isn't in the same league as the X5M for 0-60 times right? GTS is somewhere around 6.1 seconds 0-60, the Cayenne Turbo would be more comparable to the X5M.

you are right. performance wise it is not. but Cayenne GTS looks good comparing to the old cayenne turbo. new one is different. I wish X5M/X6M could with 21' wheels as standard. and i think porsche's wheels have better looking.

After test driving the car there was nothing to think about other then getting the best price, it's a great vehicle. Also 0-60 is listed at 4.5 but BMW for some reason always has the 0-60 higher, i heard these beasts getting 0-60 in 4.0 stock.

I think this is a pure emotional buy for the X5/X6 M. You are not really going to get much "utiliy" or practicality out of this vehicle. If you don't need the "room", why not consider a X6M? Heck, if you can afford it, why not? On that note, I have a 2010 X6 M and just absolutely love it!

2010 X5M, Black Sapphire/Black Merino, Brushed Alu trim. Comfort Access, Cold Weather Package, Rear Climate Package, Rear Entertainment, driver assistance package, premium sound package and all the little things....

I didn't trade anything in. I have a 96 328i 2dr. with 18in BBS rims from an M5, tight fit but they work. 2009 HD Night train Softail. The X5M is the best handling and Driving SUV I have ever had, I had a Tahoe SS, Mercedes ML320, and a few Jeep Cherokee's. Previous cars included a 740i, 528i, Mercedes 300D Turbo, and an S500. combining the S500 and ML320 couldnt even compare to the X5M. Yesterday I took a nice Drive at 140MPH. The X5M was smooth like I was going 5 mph. No road noise or vibrations.

I am planning to use the X5M in winter as well, but will change to winter tires as there is good amount of snow in north east. Winter tires and AWD is all that is needed for most winter types, unless you are in pretty icy regions.

There is nothing wrong with the X5M for winter. Just put a good set of winter tires. Heck, my M3 works well with a dedicated set of winter tires.

The X5M with Michelin Latitude Alpin snow tires got me through a complete white out winter storm at Sweetgrass/Coutts border. The highway was covered with ice between Coutts and Lethbridge and I was cruising at 110km/hr. The handling (with snow tires) of the X5M makes me feel secured & safe in winter driving condition. It's an amazing vehicle.

I will take delivery on my X5 M the last week of April. I live near Bad Kreuznach, in Wöllstein. Are you a member of ///M Flight? Maybe we should meet up once my M arrives.

Beautiful ride.
