Window Tint Question

Is there a recommended window tint to closely match what's on the rear doors? I had a VW Touareg some years ago and had to special order a film with a green hue to get nearly exact match. Is there any color in the factory tint on the rear doors?

Thanks!

Made an appointment for tomorrow with a Ziebart place here in Fairfax, VA. They have a summer special going - 2 windows for $79.95 with some type of 4-ply film they use. Two windows is all I need. I was thinking of going with a 35% film. I think they use Sun-Gard. Any opinions?

Tint this weekend; new 336 style wheels next weekend - Can't wait to give the ActiveHybrid a new look.

I used 35% non-metalic 3M tint. Matched the rears perfectly. Looks like it's stock and my guy cuts right at the edge of the window so you don't see any clear glass up top at all

By the way non-metallic is preferred as over the years people have experienced remote door opening range issues withe the metallic tint due to the receiver being in the rear view mirror.

I went with the 35% non-metallic. I was worried at first because they returned the car to me parked with the rear towards the sun. This made the rear OEM tints look way lighter than the newly tinted fronts. The shop owner was about to have the tint-guy redo the work with a lighter tint when we realized what was up. We moved the car to a more neutrally lighted area and everything looks fine.

Any pictures to share? I'm here in Northern Virginia as well. Thinking about getting my front windows tinted....are you still happy with the job Ziebart did?

Thanks!

Hey! I didn't know anyone here in NOVA with an X6. I live up in Annandale.
I haven't taken pictures yet, but I probably should before it rains. I'm happy with the work they did and the price was great (about $83 after tax). I went with their 38% non-metallic tint.

It's difficult to match OEM tint since it sometimes has a hue to it. If I really pay attention, I can tell there's a difference between the front and rear when looking outside from the inside.

Wow! That looks great! Nice ride. I think you traded in the right direction. I actually ordered those rims and they're getting here tomorrow. I'll be installing them over the weekend.

As for the tints, the more I look at them, the more I notice the fronts are darker than the rears. It might be due to the color of the tint. Ziebart used some Suntek film that's smoked grey in color. The BMW OEM tint seems to have a bluish hue. It doesn't help that my car is white inside.

Here are a few pics I took after work today:

Very nice! Hard to tell in the pics, but the windows look pretty close.

I think your X6 will look a lot better with your new wheels. Not a big fan of those propeller wheels.

Almost 10 years in the Navy and I never made that analogy. You're absolutely right; they look like propellers. That's probably why I don't like them. I'll take new pics once I get the new wheels installed this weekend, assuming they arrive tomorrow in one piece.

Included are a couple of quick shots of my new tint job. Had the front windows done this afternoon. Decided to go with 45% metallic, since it seemed to match the best, with my space gray car and black interior.

Consistent with what has been discussed before, depending on the viewing angle and the angle of the sun, the tinted windows go from being quite dark, to being quite transparent.

Looks real good! I like it. Maybe I should have gone with a lighter tint as well. I still think the fronts are darker. I may try installing a very light tint to the rears to get rid of the bluish hue on those.

Being in Texas and all, I tinted my rears and hatch darker and had my fronts tinted the darkest street legal with ceramic tint. They also put on a clear windshield UV barrier. It isn't like the surface of the sun anymore when its been outside all day in 105+ heat.
