Has Anyone Lowered Their X6?
I'm wondering if anyone has lowered their X6. If you did, which company did you go with and for what wheel size:
Hamann 40mm H&R 30mm Hartge 30mm AC Schitzer 30mm I'm guessing that the numbers they show is how much it drops, correct? Is one better then the other? I want to put on 22" wheels. Please post pictures of your lowered ride, if possible. Thanks. |

Just done it today on my 50i. I use the Hartge (30mm), the Hartge exhuast too and with 21" V spoke 215 Black. After lowering it you will instantly notice how easy it is to get in the car.
Will update the Garage this week end so you can see the lowering and the new Hartge exhuast. |

For what it's worth, yesterday I ordered the H&R 1.2 inch lowering kit for my 09 X6 3.5. I seriously considered the 2.0 inch drop in the front but have "self leveling" headlights and the BMW dealer advised the linkage may not be able to compensate for that much nose down. Don't know how long before I see it, I'd bet at least a week, but will take some pictures when done.

I think 30MM equals 1.19 inches. Google H&R Springs and go to their "application" section. X6's are way down towards the bottom of the list. I had to order them through one of their distributors, easily found on their web site.

Thank you. Who were you going to use if you had decided to do the 2" drop? I noticed that Hamann sells a 30mm and 40mm sport springs.

H&R seemed to be the easiest to buy and get regardless of the drop. That's why I chose them. The size of ones wheels is important but even more so are the size of the tires on the wheels. I had a Cayenne S with 20's on it then but huge tires on it. Had to grind a suspension bolt down a little keep from rubbing the tire.

I am also thinking about the H&R drop, so I am definitely interested in this thread.
How is the ride quality after dropping? I dropped my last car (also with H&R), and the suspension became so stiff... Will lowering the car void the factory warranty? |

Lowered springs are usually stiffer for two reasons that I've found
1) because people what sportier handling so they are looking to buy stiffer springs 2) shorter springs need to be stiffer to help keep the suspension off the bumpstops Note shorter springs that arent stiffer are still likely to upset ride as the car will likely crash into the bumpstops faster/sooner leading to harsh ride anyways, some springs try to use a rising rate to slow the suspension movement onto the bumpstop but still once your on them the suspension is pretty much heading towards solid PS not sure what happens with Air springs , I imagine that they will have less air in due to trying to achieve lower setting dictated by drop links and that this lower air pressure will feel initially softer but stiffen up quicker when the bag compresses under suspension movement, so not neccessarily ideal either for ride comfort. Warrenty? if the shocks or suspensions bushes fail earlier than BMW anticipate they may chose to say out of warrenty due to non-oem springs, as these components may be subject to greater loads as a result of the lowered springs All Just IMHO. |
