Would it be safe to run hub-centric rings on the rear of an X5M...

in order to run regular X5 non-M rims? Thanks in advance...

Hub-centric rings on X5M

"Just bore the wheel"

That is a misunderstanding of the issue. The X5M, X6M and X6 all have smaller diameter rear hubs than front hubs (72.5mm instead of 74.0mm).
So the problem is not making more space, it is filling up the existing space and keeping the wheel concentric - if you are going to use standard X5 wheels on the rear of an M.

Many after-market wheel manufacturers supply rings so I guess they work, although I can't say I am enthusiastic about them, especially with 550bhp and all that torque.

even more so than the HP/TQ, i'm concerned about the sheer weight of the vehicle...
