Tire advice
Hey Everyone,
Disclaimer: I have basically no knowledge of tires whatsoever. I got my 2012d (staggered setup) in November of last year and didn't enjoy driving in ice/snow with the run flats. So, I want to go ahead and switch out the tires before winter. I've done some reading and just about everyone seems to like the Conti DSW as an all-season tire. Living in VA I don't really see the need for a dedicated winter set so thought this might be a good option. I reached out to Tire-rack and it appears the DWS is being phased out and replaced with the DWS06. So, my two questions are, does anyone have experiences with the 06 version and, if I eventually wanted to move to 22's, what tire to do you recommend? It appears there is no DWS option for 22's. Thanks! |

1. Get another set of wheels, 18" or 19" for the winter. Readily available used for $400 to $600. Or stay with what you have. Then buy the DWS06. You won't be disappointed. It's good practice to remove your wheels twice a year and do an overall inspection of the brakes, rotors and to prevent the wheels from "fusing" (rust) to the rotor hat.
2. Don't get 22". You'll have to get aftermarket replicas (BMW does not make 22") and you'll be disappointed. Selection of 21" or 22" tires is very limited. PS. One caveat: if your car is a lease, be prepared to put a full set of RFT with at least 4/32 or 5/32 and original wheels back on. The dealer will not accept your car without, or make you pay. GL

I assume you have 20" Rims right now, if so I went with a set of Toyo Proxes STII all seasons. I have about 5k on them and I still love them. They greatly improve the ride and are very quiet. After 5k on them they still look new, better tread wear than the RFT's. Living in Maryland I need an all season also. I will have to see how they do snow this winter.
