Decision: Buy X6 or the new Mercedes ML class?

Buy X6 or the new Mercedes ML class?

I know they are not in the same league. X6 is more stylish and aggressive while the new ML class is just so so, only that its interior is more luxurious than the X6's.

While my preference is X6, I am concern that X6 has been in the market with the same style since 2008 and its "cool looks" will be outdated in the next few years while the new ML has just started at its prime.

If you guys were me, what's your recommendation? FYI: most of the time, only 2 people will be driving the car. So trunk/space is not really a concern.

I think you should go dive them both. While I have not driven a ML, I bet it drives a lot different than the X6 (MB's normally do). I personally think that should be what makes you choose because they are both really cool looking vehicles IMHO.

Which one will be more eye catching? I plan to buy the car and will keep it for at least 5 years, therefore, style & reliability will be important factors for me.

You are asking this of folks on an X6 forum.

I don't know about the other X6 drivers, but I am driving what I think looks best etc.

Even though the body style has been on the road a few years, it is still in demand and ever more often copied by other auto makers. Audi is coming out with an X6 clone soon. I think the body style is still gaining in popularity. I think it will remain a good buy and a sought after style for many years. The dealership where I bought mine has sold their limit for the year!

For my tastes the MB is still too boxy. I came really close to getting the Porsche for the name even though I think their rear end is ugly.

Glad I didn't.

I've driven both. The ML gives you that smooth Cadillac type ride. The X6 is a sporty ride with a stiff suspension and the upgrades are unlimited. Depending on your style of driving, that's how you'll choose.

My opinion is you should do what's right for you...drive both and choose, but as stated before, you're gonna get overwhelming biased answers on this forum.

Is he really going to find an x6 to test drive? For what its worth, that is an "interesting" question to ask on an X6 forum. Have you asked on the MB forum?

IMO, X6 gives you more of that, no matter which forum it is
It's very unique...
ML blends in pretty good with the rest of the car crowd, just like majority of SUVs

Such a ridiculous question to ask. Similar to the "what color is better" questions. I just cant understand. My thoughts are this, if someone comes on these boards to ask a question like that, they should definitely go get the Benz. Im trying to be as nice as possible without being insulting in any way but its just pure lunacy.

Believe it or not, they are closer in sales than you would think. I believe the X6 outsold the ML last year here in the states although the ML has the lead this year (redesign must be helping).

I do agree with you however, I see a lot more MLs - at least here in Chicago.

As for the OP - while I think the design of the car (style and all) is VERY important, I spend more time driving my car than I do looking at it. So the way it drives is more important than the way it looks.

I see more X6's in NY and CT. Correct me if I'm wrong Mac. Prestige BMW in NJ has a few if you want to test drive. ML is for a family with kids. If you wanna drive. Get X6

While I agree with many that asking which vehicle is better on an BMW board is a little crazy - the fact is, most responses here have been very mature and matter of fact. I love this board!

I see more x6.. but its because I am looking for them (smile)... I'll now pull up and have a conversation with an X6 owner.... like we have a car bond or something. I wish i knew that Prestige had X6 to test drive before now. I am headed to Germany on Sat and my car...ehem truck... should be ready when I am back

I have a ML 420 CDI 2007. (I'm in the process of selling it)
I had x3 3.0d (218 HP) and x3 3.0 SD (286 HP). Excellent cars.
ML is a big fiasco in terms of reliability and on road behavior.

I have an extended list of problems with my ML, and the new version is not very different.

Airmatic is a big problem (and not very confortable), brakes are awful (I've installed Brabus) etc.

Right now ML is in service. AC is not working and Airmatic got stuck in the comfort position...
Computer says it's ok.. so another software update.
