Thump sound from exhaust under full throttle between shifts

Those with the X5M, have you noticed a thump sound from the exhaust when you do a full throttle take off between shifts?

It is definitely artificial, not sure if it was designed that way.

Did a google search and here is one editor described it. As a whomp sound. The BMW X5 M is a luxurious SUV with a heroic 555-hp, twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. So why don't I love it? Although the X5 is very, very fast and makes fantastic noises (including a loud whomp sound when the transmission shifts), it's not really that much fun. Watching the speedometer climb in the X5 M isn't as exciting to me as doing so in a true sports car or sport sedan. By my definition, sports cars thrill the driver at every opportunity, whereas this BMW simply goes fast without really getting my pulse racing.
That's not to knock the X5 M: if you want a high-performance SUV, this BMW is certainly a good choice. For my money, though, I'd go for the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. The Jeep is pretty much as quick as the BMW, but has more attitude and looks much better -- for half the price.

That shifting sounded real and not artificial to me...?

It's funny how people will argue for a better car vs BMW solely based on price or even speed. The overall quality of BMW, particularly the X5M vs Jeep SRT8, is incomparable.

I didn't expect you would actually read the review. LOL!

I know it's real not artificial but doesn't anyone know the purpose of this action during shifting?

You mean the fart sound?? If so, then search it over on the F10 M5 forum, they seem to know all about it.

my s4 makes the same fart/blip on upshift. it has to do with the ECU retarding the timing and causing unburnt fuel to make it into to the exhaust. when it touches the hot exhaust, it ignites, making that sound. The hotter your exhaust, the louder the farts
