X5M Trailer Hitch
Hello Everyone
I have been doing some searching, but I haven't found a definitive answer. What is the deal with getting a trailer hitch attached to the X5M? I spoke to a dealer and they said they are unable to do it, but that there are aftermarket options. This is in sharp contrast to a few things I read, including a review I saw where the X5M that was received from BMW for the review had the hitch already installed. Can anyone confirm? |

Ours has an OEM hitch installed on it. I can take some pics or grab part numbers for you if needed. It's a very clean install, though the one major downside is the fact that the rear bumper needs to be trimmed for the hitch to work (a rubber trim piece is added where the cut was made). A dealer *should* be able to add it. I'm headed by Shelly BMW in Buena Park tomorrow to pick up a new trim piece, I can ask them for you.

Thanks. If you have a picture or two, that would be great. I did some further research and it looks like there are a few aftermarket options that will work too, without needing to cut the bumper.

Sure thing, sorry I just saw your post!
Here's a shot of the rear of the car so you can see how the hitch affects the look. I plan to black out the entire "diffuser" area in the meantime before I get a VRS or similar diffuser for the rear (and remove the hitch temporarily). Last edited by KrisHorton; 10-08-2012 at 03:26 AM.. |
