On my 50i, 108 C is the highest I've observed, so that sounds about right .

Yep that high a temp is normal for today's Bimmers. If you have not done so, a "Mike Miller" cooling system refresh may be in order.

Based on my research, the range is normal

Doesn't anyone know if the electric water pump varies its speed based on engine rpm or pedal pressure?

I noticed I drove around harder yersterday, yet the car ran much cooler (85C to 105C). I figured higher rpms would lead to a hotter running engine, but it was the opposite
Same here. I think the electronic water pump tries to be fuel efficient. If you don't run it hard, it won't cool the engine as much. When you run the engine hard, it goes into full time cooling mode which cools the engine more.

Don't forget when driving you also have a lot Air moving around instead of idling when you have none.
