Are you planning to pay for this repair out of pocket, or have your insurance company pay?

My wife bumped a concrete support column in a parking garage which cracked the rear bumper and caused some minor paint damage on the rear 1/4 - $4000 for parts, labor, materials at a good body shop. Price didn't matter to me though - I figure I pay my insurance premiums every year, they can pay for it!

Ill be paying out of pocket. Since its my fault, I spoke with my insurance agent and she estimated my premium was going up about $800 a year. $800 x 3 years+$500 and Im just about $3k. Tack on an additional 2 years of having a higher premium and I'm even higher. Im having all the work done for about $3k so it was worth it just to go out of pocket and keep my record clean. This shop does good work so Im not concerned about it.

If somebody else's insurance was paying for it and I wasnt worried about my own premium, I wouldn't care what the cost was lol.

Car is at the body shop now. Apparently there is a backorder of the M-Sport bumpers so Im am patiently waiting for it to arrive. Hopefully Ill have the car back next week.

I just picked the car up last Friday afternoon. Went from this:

To this:

It came out pretty good. The new bumper and fender look good. I kind of wish they resprayed the reflector replacements when they did the bumper so it all matched. I'll have to order bumper plugs for the front bumper since they drilled holes to attach the front plate. I had told them to not worry about the front plate but they did it anyway. I had also asked them to respray both door moldings since front drivers door was chipped up from the previous owner. I told him to spray the rear door molding as well so it would match but its clear they didnt so I will have to go back at some point to have that fixed. Ill definitely need to detail the car once the weather warms up a bit. Not sure what it is about body shops, but I havent come across one that knows how to polish a car without holigraming the paint haha.

Went for a drive on Sunday afternoon.

Blew a tire. No spare (obviously). Very few tire shops open and they ones that were dont carry 315 size tires. Had to call a tow truck and take it to my shop. Brand new DSW 06 tires are being installed and I should have the car back tomorrow. I was planning on getting all new tires anyway in another month or so, so it wasnt a huge deal but just as my wallet started to recover from the accident, this happens haha.

The fun money I had set aside for the car is now gone. I really wanted the get the ECU unlocked, tuned, intake and DP done before summer but thats on hold for the time being.

Drove up to Boston on Friday night so I could use my parents garage.

Debadged, front plate removal and BMS intake

And this was the main project. When I first bought the car, 3 of the 4 clips that hold the rear bumper on along the tailgate had popped out. I went to one of the best autobody shops in the BMW business in the area (C&D Autobody) and he told me the bumper was ruined, would never lay flat then quoted me $3k+ for a new bumper and paint.

Well a few hours in labor to simply remove the bumper and put it back in the slots correctly and the problem was solved. Theres a tiny bit of paint damage to the tailgate but that should be something easily fixed.

Feels good to prove them wrong haha. Enjoyed a nice beer after that

For the 1st time ever, I let someone else detail my car. Ive been doing it for years but I decided that since I was going out of town, I can leave the car with him and pick it up when I get back. I wasn't let down. Paint looks phenominal.

Heres just some phots I quickly snapped on my phone. Need to find a good location and do a real photoshoot with my DSLR

How do you like the bms intake? Is the fitment/quality good? My brother installed one on his 435i and it sounds great.

Been a while since I updated this. Excuse the crap photos. The car sits outside all the time and its covered in pollen at the moment.

Recent things Ive done:
Aluminum pedals: Bought off amazon. Fitment is excellent. We will see how they hold up, but for now, quality seems to be high as well. Goes well with the factory dead pedal.

Tint: 20% up front, 40% over the factory tint on the rear.

Windshield: A rock took out my old windshield so I had it replaced and upgraded with the Comfort Climate version. Its not the OE glass but its made by Saint-Gobain Sekurit who is an OEM for BMW. It works pretty well at reducing heat into the cabin. Now thats its gotten warmer, I can definitely notice a difference when the car has been sitting in the parking lot all day. I wish I had took temperature measurements before and after. I can also notice a difference while driving. I used to feel like I was getting cooked all the time even with the AC on, but this eliminates that.

Took some time this weekend and knocked out updating the interior. I ended up pulling all the trim off, except the glove box piece, to wrap and ensure there would be no pull back. Took some time but I felt it was much easier to wrap with the pieces out of the car, especially the center trim. Came out awesome.

Installed IND rear reflectors and start button.

Also installed LED turn signals and brake lights. Much brighter than the stock bulbs. Coded the FRM to prevent any errors

A couple weeks ago I stripped all the plasti dip off the roof rails. Man, what a pain in the ass that was. Spent a day this weekend wrapping the rails in gloss black vinyl to match the window trim. The M Sport rails are tough but for $40 in materials and a few hours of trial and error, I think I did a pretty good job. A few places I contacted wanted $200+ for the job.

Anyway, it turned out pretty decent. Getting the vinyl to lay flat in that channel is the hardest part. The ends are a little tricky as well. A few little bubbles and wrinkles but you can only see them up close. Beyond a few feet, it all looks nice. I’ll see how long it all hold down.

VRSF downpipe installed. Flashed my tune up from 1+ to 2+. Unfortunately a tropical storm hit NYC today and slowed traffic so I couldn’t really get a good feel for the differences yet. I’ll try to get audio up in the next few days.
