Okay.... why is this being made? what about the x3? whats so great about the x6 or whats the need for it? what will it compete with? I thought it was going to be a pick up truck... or something like it

What was the point of BMW creating a segment called SUV with the X5?

Thats a silly question you ask

It isn't a silly question ...
im not saying it doesn't make sense. I just want to know if it is indeed to compete with R class of mercades. At first, i thought the x6 was a crossover. Probably will be.. 6 passenger hence x6.

BMW is calling the X6 an SAC - Sports Activity Coupe. It's going to be a crossover, but not an SUV minivan crossover, but rather a SUV Coupe croseover. It will be longer, wider, and lower than the X5. It will be faster than the X5 and handle much better. Instead of 7 seats it will only have four. It's made for people who like the large road presence, carrying room and height of an SUV but want uncompromised BMW coupe performance - this thing will be a beast and do very well IMO. (as long as it looks as good as it performs... the photochops are looking iffy)

Crossovers are starting to pick up pace at least a bit, while the minivan is declining. Just because you're not too fond of the X6, doesn't mean there isn't a demographic that finds it resourceful.

They could have easily done this to the current X5 and maybe called it an ///MX5?

Another thing I'm confused about is why car makers are calling these vehicles Coupés, when they certainly are not. Coupé-ish maybe, but >2doors = not a Coupé.

According to my friend ad the Performance Center the x6 will be an unbelievable vehicle. A SUV that is faster than any other BMW on the market currently. A TT V8 based onthe 335i TT with over 500HP and 650TQ. This will be the benchmark for all future Bimmers so watch it carefully.

PLUS... the M version will be over 650HP and 800TQ... according to my brief phone conversation.

The final 4.4 litre V8 TT (N64B44O1) engine will be limited to 400+ HP & Torque. The final numbers will be determined by marketing, however it will be pegged in the mid 400.

The 5.0 litre V10 (S85BO1)engine will get 10% increase in displacement. The 800 Torque is not correct neither is the 650 HP number.

It was again BMW that created the segment called SUV.

Now they're creating the SUC. Get it? There is no need to ask why, in my opinion of course =)

And I agree with your Rick hunter. Coupe's have 2 doors, not 4. But I guess they name it as coupe because of the backk design that narrows down. Plus the windows dont have frames, which is a coupe thing.

absolutely spot on... just like the CLS from merc, they keep calling it a luxury coupe but 4 doors dont make a coupe... who are they fooling ?? and the x6 doesnt look like a coupe at all. it looks like a 4 door sedan with a high ride height...

I dont think that the M version of the X6 will use the v10 engine that is in M5. A high revving engine with low torque wont be suitable for a crossover...

3) Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe
4) Jaguar F-Pace
5) Maserati Levante
6) Lamborghini Urus
7) Audi Q5 Sportbak
8) Infiniti QX55
9) Cupra Formentor
