Navigation Night Mode

Can someone tell me what the night mode option is? When I select it I do not see any difference? 2014 Maps...

The map should turn to night mode which is where the lighter colors are supressed and replaced with darker colors - less obtrusive when driving at night.

Amazingly, while a $99 Garmin will do this based on time of day (sunrise/sunset tables) - heck, the free Waze app does this also, on a $85K BMW you have to change it yourself so I programmed button 6 to flip between day and night mode.

I agree it is a shame BMW didn't do the extra programming to automate the night mode feature

To program button 6 just go to the Navigation setting menu where you would manually make the Night Mode setting and hold down button 6 until it is saved. Then you can toggle night mode with button 6 on or off.

I need to take a closer look when Night Mode is on to see if the colors actually change. Thanks!

Yup, those buttons are NOT radio presets. You can program them to replace any iDrive command.

I have one set to call my wife without having to putz around with the phone menus. I have one set to change the map view (2D/3D etc). You can do lots with those buttons.

I did the same, programmed it to button 4. I also programmed stop guidance to button 5.

I figured out why I did not see a change when I select night mode...seems if you have the traffic /grey maps option selected it will disregard the night mode setting. Switched it off and voila.

Yes, I don't quite understand the gray maps. My 335i had them too.

Agree, super annoying that the thing doesn't have an option to change automatically. My wife's Nissan minivan had that option for pete's sake.

Good idea with the programming the button, hadn't thought to do that - I've just been driving around in day mode.
