Just got off the phone with the SA, our belt tensioner was also sheared off (38,000 miles) on our 2010. Coincidence that 2 2010's around 40,000 miles have broken tensioners? Things that make you go hmmm.....

No problem, just torque
10k miles, no problem other than my wife must remember how much power it has. :-)
By the way, no lines for diesel fuel in the NY area ...... a beautiful thing |

I have a 2009 BMW X5 xDrive35d, and I love it! If you are thinking of upgrading to an X5 but concerned with price of fuel, this baby could be the solution!

I have a 35d but with the price of Diesel more expensive than premium gas here in Alberta I am not sure the diesel is worth the extra initial cost anymore. Back when diesel was even cheaper than regular gas it was a no brainer, not so much any more.

80,000 miles and have had to replace the egr valve (clogged up with carbon build up) and boost pressure sensor (also carbon buildup related). Brand name only diesel for me from now on. No other issues.

Diesel problem ...
Hmmm, not so fast, I'm not so sure ... I have 2015 diesel currently in shop for second time in less than two yrs ( purchased Sept 2014 ) for EGR problem. First time a remodified filter was installed in summer of 2015. Now back in for same problem. BMWNA is being requested to replace complete valve. Still under warranty. Seems to be a common problem with the diesel. Do your research in depth ...

Exhaust pressure sensor replaced 5. 2 EGR coolers replaced (under warranty) 6. Both rear airbags replaced (under warranty) 7. Blower motor replaced (under warranty) 8. Peeling steering wheel trim replaced (under warranty) 9. Tension struts replaced (lower control arms) 10. Front sway bar endlinks replaced 11. Front Tie rods replaced (seized due to salt corrosion) 12. Glowplug module and 6 glow plugs replaced 13. Burnt rear light housing (fixed with LCI tail lights) 14. CCC DVD drive (underwarranty) 15. 1 battery (under warranty) 16. EMF switch 17. 1 Roof rail due to corrosion at the seam Apart from that, just regular maintenance, oil, brakes, tires 1. Tranny flush and fill/Pan filter 2. Water pump and thermostat/coolant flush and fill 3. Front and rear diff fluids, transfer case fluid 4. Fuel filter/Cabin filter/air Filters

Its an '09, bushings wear out, but given that this is a first model year diesel, I think I have hit all the issues except (knock on wood), the active tank.

Yeah I'd say that's above average in terms of items typically needing to be replaced within 100k. Also sounds like your environment may be contributing to some of those issues as well.
Here a list of items replaced for my 2011 in its lifetime (79k): - SCR tank - O2 sensor - High Pressure oil line (slight leak) - Rear right window regulator - Cup Holder - Brakes (maintenance) - Replaced Vacuum lines I've had a few other things I've taken care of myself such as noises/creaks and cleaned the manifold out but aside from that it's been a pretty solid machine. Seems like the weakest point on the diesels is the emissions system. |

They are great engines. I have a 335d with 400hp about 650tq (hybrid turbos) and the thing has not let me down. The mpg is pretty insane too...I'm getting 41+ mpg at 80mph...
Most problems are emissions related or use of poor fuel. Both of these things can be solved. Stick to the big truck stop fueling areas thus they have a fresher supply of fuel... Check out the e90 diesel forum if you want more information and insight on this platform. We are a very dedicated thread with many aftermarket options available for these shortcomings. |

Fully stock '12 35d with 60k miles. It's my wife's dd. We've had no out of pocket expenses except the first scheduled maintenance since it passed the 50k mile mark and one set of tires.
