Here's a curved cap rod, and then a straight rod

Yeah I did notice that the second one is for S63TU2 so that one doesn't apply to me. I noticed that 1st and 3rd is the rod angle difference. Which I believe straight rod was in TU engines M5's and I think F85. I was just confused why is there 1st and 4th which are pretty much the same thing.

Still didn't have time to deal with bearing as I'm still dealing with transmission on my X5 50i, I can't figure out what the hell is wrong with it. I had it apart today for the 4th time and I'm done with that POS. Someone else can deal with that. Fixed freaking everything engine rebuilt and now transmission? Hell no. I usually fix everything but sometimes you have to know when enough is enough.

5 out of 10 times when you press P to engage parking it will show transmission malfunction...transmission position P may not be possible.... CODE 4ec8 position sensor.

Well I set up my camera under the car and watched what is happening.
When P engages as it should the lever on the side of the trans for emergency neutral moves smooth as it should.

When P doesn't engage as it should Flashing N and trans malf. The lever moves in like two steps it moves stops for a split second in the middle and then goes all the way.
So the parking lock is actually engaged but as it takes longer as it should malfunction pops up.

I've searched everywhere and there is not one word on internet about something like this.

I've spent hours taking apart my spare transmission to figure out how exactly this locking mechanism works trying all movements. It's actually pretty simple mechanism can't find what could be wrong.

Even swapped few parts from the other transmission no change at all.

I have few videos if interested. I would be really surprised if some ever came across this issue or know how to fix it.

IMO, the first one might be for new rods, 4th one for reusing existing rods.

That would make some sense. They should have TIS in more details for things like this. Specially for something that important were is no room for any errors.

Few updates.
  • 1. Dropping the subframe was little bit more challenging than I was expecting due to few bolts in crazy tight spaces. And again my struggles to to remove axles.
  • 2. Unfortunately my car is build date 3/2011 and guess what 3/2011 was the month they changed the rod design. So I made little research which made me believe my car has new design. Ordered bearings....took first bearing shell out and guess what OLD design shells. Now I have extra pack of rod bearings. Guess I have to buy another car LOL.
  • 3. Now to the bearings. Took bearings 2-8 out....wow they are not as bad as I was expecting. BUT. Here comes bearing number one. Holy crap! That was close call. Thanks God I'm changing it.
