Check engine light- X5d

Got a check engine light yesterday on my 2012 X5d. I put my OBD reader on it and came up with P205b, Reductant Tank.... (DEF related) Went to the dealer this morning and they could not see me today, too busy. In order to get a loaner made an appt 2 weeks out, (sad). When I told the advisor the code I pulled, he said doesn't matter, German cars do not use P codes so the code I pulled is not valid. Never heard that one before. I told him I found the code on a BMW forum and what the remedy was and he calmly said they would have to check themselves. Not too helpful. Since it is not a flashing light I must assume it is only an emissions issue and can wait. I really like this vehicle but not without an warranty and the dealership close to me is not very accommodating. Both my Lexus dealer and my MB dealer are way more customer focused.

Any comments related to the P codes??

Thanks

did it happen just after you fill up the gas? I forgot to tighten my cap one time and the light came on after 5mins of driving. it went away after I re-tighten my cap.

Your 2012 is already out of warranty? I assume you have more than 50K miles?

Still in warranty, my feeling is that owning this vehicle without a warranty could be problematic.

I went back to the dealer this afternoon hoping they had time to just check the code. I spoke to a different more knowledgeable SA. He was about to get me written up when I told him the code I pulled and the description and he said it was a valid code. He had seen it before and it is related to the heater in the DEF tank. The heater is meant to keep the DEF fluid from freezing. Since there is no chance of that in houston in July he told me not to be concerned. I will return in two weeks as scheduled.

That concerns me as one advisor will tell you to stop playing doctors and discount your findings like your a fool and the other was so helpful and receptive. I just bought a 35d and am having a rattling in the lift gate area. I was also told a loaner would be a week out. A certified trained BMW mechanic at the dealer told me to just turn the radio up. Very worried that my RAM dealer provided better service than the more expensive guys. Once they got your money your no longer important. Other than that, I absolutely love the X5 35d.

there is a world difference in Westside lexus and Momentum BMW in Houston.
Lexus is really focused on the customer. Great waiting area and loaners are
lined up ready to go. But unfortunately I liked the x5 better than Lx had.
So have to put up with a down grade in service and customer comfort.
BMW is like waiting at the outlet mall
