Engine Rev in Reverse

Noticed a strange issue today. It was rather hot and we had the A/C on high. Started the car put it in reverse and the engine revved up to 3K RPMs. Stepped on the brake let go and it happened again.

Very odd.

Maybe the idle was at risk for stalling so the engine revved up?

Any one else have an issue like this?

Thanks,
Joe

Did you happen to step on gas pedal right after putting in reverse? Did the vehicle move?

The gear couldn't have been engaged with RPM to 3K, else vehicle would have bolted from your driveway pretty fast.

I think what happened is somehow Neutral got engated instead of Reverse, and stepping on gas would of course rev up the engine.

Or..

Putting the gear in R was about to stall the engine, and computer quickly put in Neutral (or park) and revved up.

Just speculating.

It did actually jump backwards both times. That's why I got on the brake quick.

Very odd.

I'll try to see if it happens again under the same conditions.

Any one else notice this? Kind of freaks me out.

Joe
