Fair Market Value '12 X5 5.0

I just sold a '12 M3 coupe and am looking to get into an SUV. Have been back and forth on purchasing an X5. I am out of the loop on the values of these and wanted to know if anyone here might be able to suggest rough figures for the value of this X5:

'12 X5 5.0 M Sport - ~21k Miles
Tech
Premium
Premium Sound
3rd Row

I'd say try pricing it out in KBB or NADA for starters to give you a rough idea. It looks to be in pretty nice shape and not a ton of miles either.

One thing I'll tell ya to watch out for on the M Sports though is the stone chips on the rear quarter in front of the rear wheels. The following pictures were taking of my brand new 2013 M Sport with 700 Miles on it!!!! The dealer had no answer for it other than to say that they would 'paint it'. I told them absolutely no way and they took the car back and I bought a 2013 non M Sport X5 (from another dealer no less).

All I'm saying is look for this if your considering buying it as I wouldn't want you to come across it after the fact.

Yeah I'm going to do some work on valuations. I remember seeing posts about that side skirt issue years ago. Thanks for bringing it up, definitely something to look out for.

Yeah, the dealer I bought it from (Patrick BMW) tried to hide it on used cars they had on the lot. The Black ones were the worst as some of the stone chips would make it through to the primer and then you'd see white/gray marks.

They would use Black color wax to try and cover it up, at least as best as possible as it's in an area that most people wouldn't look at when looking at the car.

I loved the M Sport X5, it had an awesome stance with the wheel/tire/arches package, but this was after only 700 miles and I'm the type that washes my cars once a week if they need it or not, so I definitely wasn't driving through piles of the loose gravel on the side of the road.

Some of it you can't help, but what you see in the pictures was literally from driving to and from work over a 700 mile period.

Your roads may be better in Florida vs. Chicago so it might not be as bad an issue there, but if it does have marks on it, use it to negotiate the price down lower on the X5!

I've been searching for a '12 50i for awhile and I think the asking price is right in the range of what I've been seeing given the year, mileage, and options. I see some '12's as high as mid-50's but those are all certified/mostly fully loaded. And some into the low 40's, but they have way more than 21K miles and are not optioned as well as this example you linked to.

Just my .02 based on my searches...

Ok great, thanks. I just started the search and this looked to be priced aggressively compared to others in the area.

As long as that car is certified, you are definitely in the ball park. I picked up a '12 50i 6 weeks ago 25k mi, CPO, Prem Pack, Premium sound, Tech, 20in 336s, cold weather pack, and had the dealer install the OEM tow hitch (1200$). I paid $45,500 out the door.

Klimo - thanks for outlining your deal. Being that its an independent 'used' car dealer, I do not believe it is certified. Backing out taxes, fees, and the premium of CPO, I am thinking this should be low 40's, or sub 40. Pulled a manheim sheet and values are lining up as such. Going to look at it this afternoon and make a decision.

If it's under 50k miles and I believe 4yrs, who cares? It's still under the factory warranty from BMW, and you can purchase a BMW extended warranty at any BMW dealership, or a 3rd party warranty from the place you buy your car.

Beautiful vehicle, but I think it's priced on the high side. It seems to nicely equipped, but it's missing Adaptive Drive along with the Multi Contour Seats / Active Ventilated Seat Package. I think a price around $44K would be fair, considering it's not a CPO but it still has low miles.

How long have they had it on the forecourt? They might try and get top dollar for it since someone will probably snatch it up if they're looking for a black M Sport.

The biggest let down with this particular X5 is the lack of multi contour seats. I honestly just began this search as I sold the M3 a couple weeks ago. They've probably had it for sale for a week now.

The Multi Contour seats are definitely nice to have (I have them in my X5) but that was not the reason I bought mine. Could I live without them? Sure. Am I glad I have them? Definitely. It's one of those things where once you sit in them, you want them. But unless you have, you don't really know what you could potentially be missing out on. I say as long as you're comfortable in the seats it currently has, then you shouldn't care too much.

My seats have the massaging function, along with the built-in ventilation. It's nice for showing off, but I wouldn't pay extra for it again, especially since I rarely use my X5 for long distance driving. If I was, then I think it would be appreciated more.
