Need advice from X6M'ers
I was bent on trading my '11 5501 for a '13 M5 - but after deciding to stay in the Midwest for at least 2 more years, I decided to buy an X6M - now, here's my dilemma - as you know there are quite a few '12's that still new at dealerships - I can get one at 87K today - and the LCI's are in the 103-105 price range - is the LCI worth the +-16K difference, especially on the M since the drivetrain is the same? Can the front LED's be retrofitted to a '12?
Any other advice and 'must haves' is appreciated.... Thanks...

If you don't care about the LED headlights and blue brake calipers all that much go for the 12, eventually you will be able to retrofit the headlights so it might be better to save some money with the 12. Get one thats fully optioned with full merino leather and leather dashboard, can't go wrong with that.

The 2013 X6M also has the Powerdome hood from the original ActiveHybrid X6, in addition to the LED headlights and tail lights.
I doubt it will cost $15k to retrofit hood and lights. Apparently there is an OEM retrofit kit for the LED lights. I found a thread on xoutpost where someone stated the cost of the kit is $5k, but I am not sure if that is for front lights or front and rear, I would check with a BMW dealer on that and cost of the hood. The bumpers are the same. I am not sure about any interior or packages differences. You can try bmwconfig.com and see if they still have the 2012 up, if they do, you should be able to see any differences in options or packages. Tough call, but with the retrofit kit you'll still save about $5k. It was easier for me because I ordered mine to be exactly how I want, taking a car from the lot was not an option, as I have not seen an MCB X6M with Mugello Red interior just hanging around a dealer lot around here fully loaded Not if you compare 2012 vs 2013 ///M - they are the same. |

Wait another month and get 2014
You can still get custom-ordered car for over 7K off the sticker So your difference is not that much, but the car will have all nice LCI option, plus it'll be 2 years newer Resale on it will be better in a few years If you lease - scratch that |

If not much, and you order a '14, by the time you do the retrofit (if you go that route) you might only save $2-3k and have a 2 year older car. Starts to put into perspective that it might not be worth it at that point, unless you can get a substantial discount on the 2012 sitting on the lot. |

X5M and X6M in the new 2014 body style won't be available until summer or late 2014. If you want an M, better snap one up soon.

X5 and X6 are on a different cycle though - there is a new X5 coming, but the X6 just had the LCI done for 2013.
The 2014 X6 (and X6M) will be exactly the same car as the 2013 model. I can't imagine the LCI to only run for 1 year. Of course, I could be wrong, but this is my understanding. |

I just went through the same issue. I really wanted the LED lights, found a deal I could not pass up on (2012) so I pulled the trigger. Now that I own an X6M, the LED lights have not been a big deal. I am Also in Midwest (WI) and we us this as our weekend hockey Ride. My 13 year old plays over 100 games a year. I spent the money I saved on a set of Scorpion Ice / Snow ( they are great) and ordered a set of Vorsteiner VS 340's / 22's for summer from Eric at Supreme Power. No regrets.....
