2013 X5 M sport suspension question
I have a 2013 X5 X35i M Sport package. I'm coming from a 2019 X3 30i (4cl). The X3 was buttery smooth and handled the rough NYC roads beautifully. It felt light, flickable and handled pretty nicely. I know that the X5 is a good 800 pounds heavier. It's got 79,000 miles so I'm sure the shocks have lost some of its performance. It drives like, well, a 10 year old heavy car. I kind of like it and I kind of don't. I don't have adaptive drive, nor do I have airbags in the back (I think). Here are some questions:
1. It has the S226 "sports suspension settings". What is the difference between this and non sport? 2. If I replaced the shocks/struts, would it feel refreshed and smooth? 3. What should I order from ecs or fcpeuro to replace this? 4. I'm not interested in lowering it because I don't want a rougher ride. But I definitely don't want to raise it either. I know people rave about the KW kit but I definitely don't want to spend that kind of money. Does any aftermarket shocks/struts provide a good daily driver comfortable performance? |

Don't know about 2019 x3 driveability, but I have driven a lot of new 2018 2019 2020 BMW various models especially the X series, at the same time I have the same car as you have, 2013 X5 e70 35i mine driving perfectly. By the way, compared to the newer x1 x2 x5 x6 non m performance m package one my x5 drives better. My friend owns x3 I will test it and also provide my feedback.
Regarding parts, you need to replace suspension. If you able to provide the vin code I will give you the exact part numbers that come with your car from the factory. |

Most X5's have "Sports Suspension Delete." I assume it's revised springs & shocks/struts. 2. If I replaced the shocks/struts, would it feel refreshed and smooth? Probably the biggest thing affecting the ride is the 20" RFT's. You lose some steering feel going to the non-RFT's, but it's not terrible. I had 93K on my 2013 X5 M-Sport and the suspension was still very good. I had just gotten back from a 1800 mile road trip and it was a delight the entire time. |

Ok. I put on the DWS 06 Plus tires and it's a night and day difference from the snow tires. I can live with this. The ride is still a little bouncier and stiffer than the F15 X5 and the current X5 that I drove. The current X5 feels like a boat. Total disconnection from the road.
