I am not sure about the X5M, I know either the X6 or X5M has a different size front or rear hub.

Please verify.

I would be more concerned about the front brake caliper clearance. A small hub ring would work to fit it on the rear of the M

Those are the things I am not sure about, The X5M has some unique characteristics.

For one I think you are right the calipers are bigger.
